Looks like yall will ride past the Mid Autumn Festival at the Thomas Jefferson Community Center.
Sorry I missed that. There was very little evidence of it outside. Plus, in order to avoid Glebe, we had to turn just before the gym…

ParticipantNot sure we could have had better weather yesterday! Thanks as always dasgeh for organizing.
I made a video of my daughter and I from the ride:

Thanks so much. I take complete credit for the weather. Oh, wait…
That video is amazing! Thanks for sharing. Definitely one of the best illustrations of why it’s great to bike with your kids.
Do you mind if I put it on the KM-A site?
Thanks!

Don’t mind at all. Just sent you a PM too.

B: Is Long Bridge Drive too much of a mess? Looking at google maps, there seem to be paths through Long Bridge Park — could we take the eastern-most path from Crystal Drive to where it reconnects with LB Dr neat the storage place? I haven’t reconned (or ever been there) – are there curb cuts and such?
You can definitely roll in from the south, the question is really can you get back out again on the north end effectively. There are a lot of grade changes on the site and so a lot of those paths have pesky things like stairs. Might be possible. From what I’ve heard and seen, construction on Long Bridge Drive has come a long way, but I haven’t been down there recently enough to know if it has progressed to the point that you’d want to take kids down it.

I’m not sure when I’ll have time to recon. If anyone can roll through there and let me know, I’d really appreciate it. There may even be a cowbell in it for you…

ParticipantThere are some pretty tight turns coming of the portion of Long Bridge Park near the RR tracks (with a great view of the airport) through the area where the soccer fields are down to Long Bridge Drive. If I had a herd of kids, I would probably go back to Crystal drive and then hang two rights to get on Long Bridge Drive.
I’ll try to check out the drive on the way home and will report status.

ParticipantYou can ride on the east side of the Long Bridge park, but the connection down to Long Bridge Drive on the west side is a bit rough. If you try and exit the park on the north, you have to cross over dirt and broken asphalt to get onto Long Bridge Drive. There are tight ramps to get into the parking lot that would give you access to Long Bridge Drive. Long Bridge Drive is still a work in progress, but is improved from a few months ago. Heading north on Long Bridge Drive, the road is rough, but passable. Once you pass under the 395 underpass, the road smooths out.

ParticipantAs promised (threatened?), photos. Bottom line – Long Bridge Drive isn’t ready for prime time.
Not sure what route is planned but Boundary Channel Drive under 395 is pretty rough.
Here is the east end of Long Bridge (before the storage place)
And right next to the storage place (looking towards the fields)
Looking into the park parking lot
And near the new Boeing building (approaching Crystal Drive)

Sorry I didn’t see this on Saturday, but I’m so glad you guys came. My husband (who was the caboose and actually saw you guys riding) said your daughter did great! He meant to say something to you before he left, but got derailed dealing with fussy baby.
Thanks for organizing – a great time was had by all. And, we were inspired to get a wee-hoo. We’re looking forward to the next ride!

I really need to find a local bike shop that stocks WeeHoos and get them to sponsor. That’s at least the 2nd sold by KM-A. I’m thinking sponsorship would entail snacks at the start / finish of each ride, more swag and maybe even bike shop discounts…
and Thanks!

We got ours from Big Wheel Bikes by Spout Run. They had at least one in stock

I think the Arlington store has one. We can get them at the Mosaic store pretty quickly.
