[Hard to find if there was an earlier message on this topic, but road and trail conditions works too]

W&OD in Falls Church has had all the road crossings updated to allow the separate walking and biking lanes to stay separate at the crossings (until they end). However, in the process the trail was dug up a bit close to the crossings and repaved, but that repaving is rougher and not always smoothly connected to the prior trail. Not sure if that will be fixed or not. It is nice to not have to merge and split at each crossing.

The bits of trail that were a problem before are all smooth now. It is really nice to be able to stay in the bike lanes from crossing to crossing (or ped lanes) now.

This isn’t technically a trail “condition”, but I think it qualifies as a trail “item of note”. For the last few days as I wait for the light at Columbia Pike and Four Mile Run, the button to call the “walk” signal has been acting odd: blinking instead of  solid red. This morning I kept waving at it in hopes it’d act normal, but what happened was so far from normal it almost made me miss the light. Instead of the usual angry man saying “wait” (that guy sounds like he’s already counted to 3 and if the kids don’t come in RIGHT NOW there will be consequences) a young woman’s voice told me to “change password”!

It’s always helpful to stay updated on route safety, especially for those of us who ride regularly.

Speaking of safety, especially for night rides, having a reliable bike light is crucial. I’ve been using Gaciron lights, and they offer great visibility and durability. If anyone is looking for a high-performance bike light, check them out here: https://www.gaciron-shop.com/.
