ParticipantThere was a large tree branch down on the [insert trail name here] trail along Arlington National Cemetery/Route 110. I didn’t see it until the last second (dark, driving rain) but was able to pedal hard through it. It’s probably gone or mostly broken up now.
Anyone know if I can get through the White House (in some capacity) for the ride home?

Pennsylvania Ave was still blocked this morning. Had to route on the sidewalk and through Lafayette Square. Not awful. Looks like they’re tearing down the stage starting today.

ParticipantI had to get around the large tree that fell from the part between the sidewalk and the street on the side of my house:

But the CCT was protected enough so that the wind wasn’t bad there. The city streets were another matter. I used H Street to get around the mess of construction on Pennsylvania. But I spent half my time thinking I was going to get pushed backward, and the other half thinking I was going to be pushed into the other lane (and possibly into a car).

The CCTers, by contrast, may just make it home by morning!

Thanks for the heads up on this! The tree had been cleared off the trail when I came through at about 6:40 pm.

ParticipantTree down on the Custis just east of Kensington, blocking the full width of the trail. Folks were carrying their bikes over it.
Already reported to the Arlington County trail folks.
Happy Riding.

ParticipantThere’s another down on the Custis at the bottom of the little hill heading up to the Bridge To Nowhere (if you’re heading east). Google Maps tells me it’s around McCoy Park.

ParticipantThe CCT was pretty clear, though I learned you have to cross even smaller branches at close to a 90 degree angle. I ran over one at a more obtuse angle, it rolled and I nearly had a second breakfast of gravel.

Saw that this morning and thought it was an awfully sneaky way to get commuters hooked on CX.

The log was rollable there close to 66 and even likely ride-around-able through the mud if you’ve got the skillz. …And if your fenders have more than 3″ of ground clearance.

ParticipantBig tree across the Custis Trail near Lyon Village right before the S-curve of death. No way to get around other than over.
