Asking out of ignorance, is the Arlington stretch of the W & OD usually cleared like the Custis?

Arlington County clears the section from the Custis Trail to EFC Park/Metro, but the NVRP people don’t want them to touch the rest of the trail.

That said, NOVA Parks has been snow blowing the W&OD, but not nearly as effectively or as quickly as Arlington has been clearing their stuff.

Yeah, good points; I forgot about the Custis to EFC section (despite it being on my commute) :) And the snowblowing is certainly nicer than last-year’s policy of completely ignoring it. But it certainly isn’t as nice as the actual treating and plowing (i.e. you still need the studded tires when there’s accumulation).

Noted with thanks. I guess that answers matters, given that I do not own studded tires… ;)

#CCT around 3pm was about 50% clear with some longish sections of 1/2 to 1 inch slush. It sure was pretty at parts as well.

Very much worried about ice in the morning though. Might stick to macarthur blvd.

Here’s a quick look.

W&OD from Shreve Rd to DCA was clear with the exception of a little slush on the bridges west of Carlin Springs Rd.
MVT was clear from DCA to 14th St bridge.
Beautiful Day!

Slush from Vienna to Gallows. Pretty heavy from Cedar into Vienna.

No surprises to report with regards to slickyness. Commute in was smooth sailing.

Arlington Streets and 4MR Trail east of Weenie Beenie were clear and lovely this morning.

The W&OD between Church St in Vienna and Ohio St in Arlington has some slushy bits, but no real issues for any type of tire if you take your time. I rode west around 7 am and back around 8:15 and could tell there had been some melting with an air temperature around 35 – 36°F. As usual the section between Cedar and Gallows had the most coverage and will probably be the last to melt off. Tonight’s temperatures are predicted to drop to the mid-20s, so any slush that is left will be ice for your Friday morning commute.

CCT was clear with only a few small slushy spots on the D.C. side. No problems.

I wondered about that, since the trail conditions website last night had reported the DC portion as snow-covered. I opted for Connecticut Avenue, and a glorious morning crossing of the Taft Bridge.
