So that was about 5 minutes after I cruised through that spot. Other than thinking the same “what a fine morning”, my other thought was “what are all these people doing out on my trail.” And they all seemed to be passing me.

I was more thinking about the poor gals and dudes who were missing on this great view because they were driving their cars into DC. I just hope that snow is not that bad so I can bike tomorrow instead of becoming another driver…

ParticipantSnow is starting to accumulate on the W&OD west of Columbia Pike, but it’s pretty harmless. Bridges are all covered and potentially slippery, but there’s no ice to speak of.

ParticipantCapital Crescent was starting to get covered around 12/1. GBT is completely covered in snow but rideable in a lot of places (I was on a hybrid with 35’s). Past Jones Bridge (going towards Silver Spring) is really nasty. No traction due to the snow and it’s already covered with frozen over ruts so it’s pretty treacherous (as of 1 PM).

ParticipantCareful out there folks… as the temps go down this afternoon/evening it could get a wee bit exciting!

ParticipantQuick report – Custis & WOD from Fairfax to Shreve about 1700-1725.
Fairfax and Custis are just wet except for one spot of thin slush just west of the Harrison overpass. WOD is just wet until Banneker Park, then slushy to Van Buren. Van Buren and the WOD are wet until the bridge just east of Little Falls, which is snowy. WOD from Little Falls to Great Falls is a mix of thin slush and wet, and then just wet from Great Falls to Shreve except for Citizens Bridge, which is snowy.
All of this was easily rideable on 26″ semi-slicks. It might get slick as the temperatures drop later. Safe riding, everyone!

ParticipantI guess no one is posting because it’s pretty much fine. (25 mm slicks) No ice, just wet pavement on all asphalt, even untreated. Maybe 1″ of snow on the Anacostia bridge sidewalk and on Sligo Creek (north of the beltway, near Dennis, Silver Spring) in a few places, but it mashes down into mush. Just a few photos of the absolute worst spots I could find. But it’s a very pretty evening with the snow on the tree branches.

Participant4MR trail east of Weenie Beenie is no problem as of 5:30. Not at all slick.

Participant14th St Bridge, MVT, 4MRT, WOD clear and damp, DC to Westover. 2 of 6 bridges on WOD have minor snow.

ParticipantVan Buren St. connector will be dicey tomorrow. The four bridges on the WOD between 50 and Columbia Pike could also be trouble. Otherwise completely doable on slicks.

ParticipantW&OD between Vienna and west Falls Church has light snow/slush in the usual places. Easy pavement contact.

ParticipantNorthwest Branch Trail to West Hyattsville Metro is clear except for the bridges, which have some light snow and a lot of footprints and bike tracks. NW Branch to Sligo Creek Trail looks like it wasn’t cleared/treated, but I didn’t ride that direction to find out.

ParticipantAsking out of ignorance, is the Arlington stretch of the W & OD usually cleared like the Custis?

It was not with the previous snowfall. I don’t know if that is a stretch they committed to clear or not (and not sure if there are enough snow clearing data points to extrapolate a pattern). I understand FMRT was clear east of Shirlington.
