Is it just me, or is Penn. Ave. in front of the White House closed more often now?

I bike commute from Virginia to near the Verizon Center, and it seems to me that the Secret Service is shutting down Pennsylvania Avenue in front of the White House a lot more often these days. I’m trying not to turn this into a political discussion, but before January 20, it would be closed when I go by around 8:30 a.m. about once a month, and at 5:30 to 6 p.m. about once a week. Recently, at those same times, it has been shut down in the mornings about half the time, and even more than half in the afternoon. Have others noted more frequent shutdowns, or is it that the Trump White House’s schedule is just more aligned to conflict with mine than it was previously? There’s no good detour going westbound for me in the afternoon. There’s no legal route westbound until I get to Constitution going south or Eye Street going north, and I dislike riding on both of those.

It seems worse. I think it’s been blocked every single morning I’ve tried to go through at about 8:30 to 8:45 a.m. And I’ve only made it through in the evening once in the last five tries.

It was amazingly open this morning when I came through at 8:30.

What would cause you to go in to work that late?
