    Greetings fellow velocipedists –

Just figured I’d introduce myself a little more formally here. I started lurking a couple months ago to keep abreast of trail conditions during our less than pleasant winter. I’ve got 20+ years experience working on-and-off in bike shops ranging from teeny-tiny mom&pops to a $14 million in annual sales big-box type shop. I’ve been a wrench for all of those many years, and at one point I was a service manager overseeing a 14-man shop run like a pirate ship. I’d like to make some of my experience available to the community here since y’all seem a mostly friendly bunch. Feel free to PM me if you’d like with any tech questions, and I’ll try to lurk in this forum more often and add to any threads where a question may go unanswered, or if there’s some misinformation being inadvertantly spread.

Personally, I’ve been commuting for about 7 years here in the area, and I ride between 5k and 6k miles a year, all year ’round. If I pass you on the trails, you’ll likely recognize me by the reflective “mud-flap girl” stuck to the bottom of my backpack. And please forgive me if i don’t ring all my passes – sometimes it’s just cold and I’m sleepy at 5:30am; we all make mistakes!

and – la vie velominatus, Ah-Merckx.

    Welcome!

How does one run a shop like a pirate ship? Do you have a plank?

Rum makes a very good lube. Makes things run very smoothly.

Similarly to how Tony Bourdain runs his kitchens.
