A former colleague of mine shared this article with me about messaging and road user rights. I find it thoughtful and compelling. What do you think?

Thanks for noticing! This article developed in response to a question about what those “Share the Road” signs really MEAN, from the legal sense. I think the concepts have been percolating for a long time, and just got “ripe” and ready for posting.

I quite like it, but it immediately brought to mind that cyclists *don’t* have the same bundle of rights as drivers of cars. In Virginia, if you are on a road in a car, you are not required to keep to the right of the lane (or anywhere in particular, in the lane). As a cyclist, you are (with the usual exceptions). So rights do vary by mode of conveyance, as much as it annoys.
