SEEKING INFORMATION: Howard County police are asking for the public’s help to identify a cyclist who struck and injured a child this week on a path near Lake Elkhorn.
Police were called Monday, March 28 around 2 p.m. to the 7500 block of Broken Staff for a pedestrian collision with a bicycle.
Officers learned that the 4-year-old victim had suffered a serious injury and was being transported to the hospital. She is currently in stable condition, but wearing a body cast as a result of her injuries.
According to witnesses at the scene, the victim was walking along the path with a parent. A bicyclist approached them from behind and rang his bell to alert them of his presence. The child attempted to get out of the way, however she and the bicyclist collided on the edge of the path.
The bicyclist, who was an unknown white or Hispanic male wearing all red clothing, stopped and asked if the child was alright, but then continued on his way. Officers searched the area, but did not locate him. There are no additional confirmed details about his appearance. He may have been riding a red bicycle.
Police are looking to identify the cyclist. A private contributor is offering a reward of up to $1,000 for information that confirms the rider’s identity. Anyone with information should call the Howard County Police Tip Line at 410-313-STOP.

A fellow cyclists asks if anyone might have been running STRAVA in the area and can look at flyby.

So he stopped and asked if the kid was okay. Did he get a reply?
