I need to (a) finish paying for new bike and (b) make room for it.

I have two extra wheel sets that I can sell but no clue how I should price them. They’re both laying around as spare wheelsets but I’ve never even once thought to use them.

First, DT Swiss R24 thru axle wheelset taken off my 2016 warbird (center lock 15×100, 12×142 with bladed spokes). They probably have ~500 miles on them but you can tell they’re gravel miles (rims scratched a bit).

Second is the Alex CXD6 wheels from the Rove. They’re quick release and six bolt, 24 spoke count each. Minimal miles, maybe 100? Plain, no stickers no flash. They look brand new (once I dust them).

How should I price them before I post them to DC Used Marketplace?

Of course you post your Xerxes studs like 3 weeks after I bought a set at full price. On one hand I’m annoyed I never needed to use them, on the other hand, I hate snow and cold and celebrate our increasingly warming globe.

It basically comes down to what they are worth to you. But, for something fairly well used I go for about half of new price. If something is basically like new and just gathering dust I would make it substantially less than new, but probably not half replacement cost. Seems to hold true for all the hobbies I enjoy. I don’t know those wheelsets specifically. But, new wheels are pretty affordable these days. Maybe throw in some other bike junk you have laying around to sweeten the deal to a potential buyer?

I’ve noticed that the difference between a really good deal and a normal internetz selling price can come down to 20 bucks or 40 bucks. If you want it gone, price them about 10-20% less than what similar items are going for. The buyer is usually quite happy they are getting a bargain and it will sell quickly. Usually when I go to selling online I price things competitively so it sells quickly with minimal hassle. Same thing when I’m buying, I’ll pay cash with little or no haggling if the price is fair. A smooth transaction makes everyone happy.
