ParticipantMile marker 1.5 (Yellow marker #19).
A gentleman was sound asleep in the east-bound lane of the Custis trail at the bottom of the steep hill. He didn’t want to move. I placed one of my flashy lights above him so that he’s easier to see. I also called Arlington’s finest so that they might help out a little.
Have a good day.

ParticipantI just happened to be one of the first people along. I’m sure many others reported this too.
On a silly note… I also left him a bottle of water in case he was thirsty when he woke up. I’m such a sap.

ParticipantDirt – if only you could be a driver – I’d feel much safer on the roads ; )

ParticipantI try and treat them with the same respect. I hardly ever run over cars anymore.
Honestly, since I put the sign on the back of my bucket pannier, I’ve had very, very few people get aggressive with me. That doesn’t help with the stupid ones that pull out in front of me or don’t see me. To be honest and fair, there are an equal percentage of bicyclists and runners that behave in the same manner. The cost of “getting it wrong” with them is a bit lower than when mixing it up with cars.
Hopefully the good interactions continue.
Take it easy. Enjoy the rain, if we get any.

What sign is that? The one time I saw you I was going East while you were going West so I didn’t see a sign.
Speaking of rain – I happened to time it so the 28 minutes of downpour we got yesterday, I made sure I was commuting home and fixing a flat on Fairfax Drive in between. So as soon as I got in my front door the sun came back out. I Metro’d it today as my riding gear is completely drenched due to me being completely illprepared for the rain yesterday.

ParticipantHere it is about 90 seconds after getting rear-ended by Jim.

ParticipantGreat sign! I’m sure you do get plenty of honks from it!
Sorry to hear you hit the deck. Was this yesterday?
Is that a Cross Check? I trade off between a Bianchi San Jose and a grey CC with a red King headset for commuting. So my bike looks pretty darn similar, except mine is probably several sizes smaller ; )
I should post pics…

ParticipantActually I didn’t hit the deck. He hit me and bounced off. I was track standing at the time. I just put my foot down. That’s the joy of being a 200lb guy riding an 80 pound bike. It takes more than a guy on a fixie to knock me over.
