Just making sure we have someone definitely coming who definitely knows the way. I think I can find it but would prefer not to lead on my own.
Super Duper easy: http://goo.gl/maps/x1zo5
but yes, planning on being there to help lead if need be.

Yeah, but that presumes one remembers where to exit 4MR.
Anyway, glad to have you along.

ParticipantSo I really want to try this route (spoiler alert: through the Pentagon Parking lot, then along Army-Navy Drive to FMR). I’m getting to work late tomorrow (it’s a trend), so I’ll leave Capitol Hill at 5pm. I could be at the designated CaBi station (Jefferson Memorial) around 5:15pm (5:20pm?) if anyone wants to join me. I’ve never this route between the Pentagon tunnel and joining FMR, so it’ll be an adventure!

Might be kind of hard to do the adventurous route leaving the CaBi station around 4:30 and still get the Cap City by 6:30.
Maybe they should use the other detour with a climb up the NoVA version of Lombard Street?

If you do that, I would just continue down S 28th St to Meade St and the traffic light.

ParticipantIf I was leading a convoy, I’d just take the usual trail route and walk or ride up the short switch back. It’s easy and doesn’t take you far out of your way. (See my Strava route from this morning.) I could even ride out to where the trail is blocked off and show you the way.

ParticipantHere is what Google bike maps recommends, in the absence of 4MR trail. However, my plan is to show up at the Jefferson Memorial CaBi station and follow whoever looks like s/he knows the way. If that doesn’t work, I’ll set the GPS on my phone to tell me where to go–and assume that it will recalculate once I get thrown off onto the 4MR detour.

ParticipantOk, I’ve seen the detour signs, but don’t know exactly where is out on 4MR. So the Eads Rt will work or is it a bigger stretch of 4MR? Thanks!

ParticipantNot sure I understand your question, but I don’t especially like to take Eads going to Shirlington from DC. Going from Shirlington to DC, it’s fine. You make a left where you see a wide paved cul de sac area immediately adjacent to the FMR trail.
If it would help, I’d be more than happy to help guide a group from the switchback as the convoy is coming toward Shirlington, and/or, after the happy hour, to where the trail meets Eads for going back into the city. I’d just need to have an idea as to timing for the group coming to Cap City.

I’ve done that in the morning going the other way. It’s fine, seems like a mile or so shorter than 4MR to MVT.

ParticipantI haven’t tried Dasgeh’s route, but there’s one pretty long Pentagon tunnel with signs all overit saying that you have to walk your bike through, and there may be a lot of people there that time of evening on a weekday. Not sure if its the same tunnel.

I don’t see why Google (and dasgeh) routes it this way rather than to just continue on Army Navy to 26th and turn right. Go one block to Glebe and take a left at the light and right at Four Mile Run Drive in half a block. This will save you about 1/2 mile.

Any member of Team 2 might be facing a quick jaunt up 23rd Street.

Yes, it’s the same tunnel. I’ve taken KM-Arl rides through there. If it’s busy, I don’t have a problem taking Fern to Army-Navy (when I’m not towing/leading kids). It’s the Army-Navy from Pentagon Row to FMR that I’ve never ridden and have always been curious about. It’s pretty flat and, as ShawnDread pointed out, shorter than any other route. Since I have to leave later and want to be there sooner, and since I like trying new things, I’m going that way.
Speak up if you want to join the late train.
*edit* and thanks for the tips on how to get from Army-Navy to FMR. I might do the shorter way, depending on time. If not, I’ll probably go the way that utilizes the most trails, because I like exploring trails.
