This is a Duke-Street-side-view of a tunnel between Duke Street and Mill Road in Alexandria. According to GPS, it is at 35 S Dove Street.

I would not recommend it these days due to a deep puddle of rainwater.

I was struggling for a name for this one and when I zoomed in to look at surrounding street names, to my surprise I saw that the path itself has a name — “Back Nine Path”. Shorter is better so I’ve named this wormhole that takes you from the noisy cars of Fairfax County Parkway Trail to the serene neighborhood path in Franklin Farms — Back9.

No “gritty city” cred for this one — it’s a truly suburban wormhole featuring a muddy path, inviting wooden bridge, and paved asphalt.

Queston to the #wormhole world. I don’t usually use Strava so this is all new to me. When I use a # for a wormhole, should the hashtag be only #FSWORMHOLE ? Or should we attach the name we’ve given it to that hashtag (example: #FSWORMHOLEBACK9)? In other words, how is it easiest for you, LuisFilipe, to find them? I am (sort of) playing several of the pointless prize games (really what occurs to me each day to do), so do I hashtag all of them in my Strava ride name? If I put all of that in the Strava ride name, do I also need to put something in the description? And if I take my photos while on my ride and include them in the Strava upload, does that give the host the info he/she needs (in addition to the hashtag)?

I’m under no illusion I’ll amass the most points and I’m not playing for that. At the same time, I’m grateful that you and others are offering up these games as it keeps things interesting and motivating, so I want to make sure I’m not making it more difficult for the people who are kind enough to host a pprize!

For most of the hashtag-based pointless prizes, they’re based on the same basic logic and a simple leaderboard (on the Freezing Saddles website) can be generated. In that sense, the competition is based on whatever single hashtag the sponsor decides the competitors should use, e.g. “#joshspointlessprize”. As someone stated in the HH last night, the hashtag must be in the ride title, not the description or photo captions. The Freezing Saddles site can then display a leaderboard like this:

From here, the sponsor can easily see who’s winning (assuming that winning is based on number of rides with the hashtag, which is the way most of these hashtag-based prizes have operated). Whatever hashtag LuisFilipe has decreed you all should use, is the one you should use — without modification. It looks like (at least some of) your activities are going to the leaderboard. Note that the organizer might also mandate additional things competitors have to do, e.g. post something in a forum thread, or document it with photos. If they want to audit that sort of aspect, it’s on themselves to do. These leaderboards take a lot of work out of the scoring for a sponsor.

However, at its core, the (case-insensitive) hashtag just needs to be in the ride title, and posting things in a Facebook group or here is an additional requirement imposed by the sponsor. I’d also add that all this isn’t directly caused by Strava or anything, it’s how the Freezing Saddles app creates the leaderboards.

Its the hashtag to use on strava, hopefully it will be added to the leaderboard, and it would be easier to follow each other’s explorations.

So for you example your would write: #FSWormhole Back9

The Hashtag is for the back end the name is for all of us to learn a bit more about your discovery, hence the ones that are well explained here, look cool, or are ones that I would like to explore, sometimes gather extra points.

Sometimes a really good WormHole name will gather you extra points, which I will have to add at the end of the game, but the #FSWormhole will help with accounting. Either way, go ride, explore, have fun.

    Ride on.

That makes so much sense now. Thank you!

This wormhole would be SO MUCH better with a curb cut onto Oak St.!! There are even 3 bucks who live in here. I haven’t taken the north-south path along the creek in awhile because it was getting so eroded around the concrete platforms. Bumpity bump bump. It’s probably been built back up by now.

The trail was resurfaced and footbridge repaired by the playground where W. Westmoreland Rd dead ends at Tripp’s Run. The trail behind TJ Elementary School though is still a rough ride and the most turbulent section of this R2D2 wormhole

I’m totally going to collect some quantum foam and exotic matter the next time I travel through a wormhole so that I can start creating my own!!!

Looks like an inviting WormHole that has a strong gravitational pull. 2 Points.

That is a WormHole that has been previously claimed, BUT per the new rules one must go out and further explore claimed wormholes to gather more knowledge and YOU did that! So 2POINTS. Also that is HeavyDutyScarySmelly WormHole, very close to a Top LEVEL 5 Wormhole. One of my favorites that I have ridden through and explored.

    Ride on,

I present to you the BEE fairweather wormhole, a cutthrough from one neighborhood to another in Falls Church …in an area constrained by the beltway and Rt 29. Both neighborhoods afford you routes to the North via Shreve or West. I’ve BEEn told that it gets very muddy after rain, so steer clear of this hyperlink to your Northern space travel destinations, lest you BEE bogged down in the BEE fairweather wormhold, never to escape.

The 11TuckUnder wormhole connects two pieces of 11th Street, from N Tuckahoe St to N Underwood St in Falls Church, VA.
The entry from N Tuckahoe St looks like someone’s driveway; the sign says “Not a through street”. There is no curb cut at the exit on N Underwood St.

This wormhole takes one from a sedate neighborhood to a residential living facility, just beyond which is Choolaah, a great Indian restaurant. Think “Chipotle” style service but with Indian food. Their approach makes it possible to try a bit of everything, which is awesome.

The wormhole also avoids Rt. 7 which is wise. The neighborhood on the eastern part of the wormhole is mostly families who have immigrated from a variety of places in the last 10-15 years and this wormhole gets a lot of use by essential workers who use bikes or walk to work.

We found this wormhole when looking for new destinations for our “Last Weekend Brunch Adventure” rides for our bike club. It was popular enough to merit repeat visits!

It’s in Loudoun County, so a bit of a hike for some of you, but if you’re coming out this direction to try it out, let me know – I bike for Choolaah!
