#wormhole It’s more than a garage for motor vehicles

Bike riders who want get up to North Kings Highway from Huntington Boulevard can ride through the Huntington Metro Station parking garage. You can also ride down to Huntington Avenue from North Kings Highway after stopping at Bob and Edith’s for a meal.

You also get bonus views of Alexandria to the north and across the river to National Harbor.

A wormhole under Arlington Blvd between N Thomas and N Trenton streets
I call it “FSI Wormhole” because it takes you from the north side of Arlington Blvd to south where State Department’s Foreign Service Institute is located

ALERT: Keep an eye out for Dark Matter as you venture through wormholes. It may lead to a portal to the 5th Dimension!

READ ALL ABOUT IT!!
“Scientists Are Pretty Sure They Found a Portal to the Fifth Dimension. It’s probably in this weird particle.”

* Dark matter could be the result of fermions pushed into a warped fifth dimension.
* This theory builds on an idea first stated in 1999, but is unique in its findings.
* Dark matter makes up 75 percent of matter but has never been observed … yet.

Introducing the “reji Tiki Bar Wormhole” in the Little City of Falls Church, south of Lee Highway (Rt 29).
1a7fa2099e92a04d2a8c19fba5bf9787.jpg

There was some serious dark matter in this wormhole, as I conducted my reconnaissance at night, in the rain.
d8f75ac6b7095499756c71c2343b081e.jpg

This wormhole connects to the previously described “R2D2” wormhole, and circumvents the Little City’s congested roadways, allowing largely care-free passage (save the acute crossing of Lee Highway Rt 29 at South Maple Ave), sort of north <-> southwest, following Tripp’s Run, from Cavalier Trail Park to John Mastenbrook Greenway Downs Park, via a pathway through the Woodley North neighborhood.
ec14d6ab7bd1b87972d98b165fb94366.jpg

More importantly, it is also a portal to/fro Falls Church Distillers (or Audacious Aleworks) and the backyard Tiki bar at reji crib, where quantum foam allegedly flows freely in the form of wine [emoji485] beer [emoji481] and mead for those who know the secret [emoji850] password.

But be forewarned, the gravitational pull upon exiting the Reji Tiki Bar can be quite strong, and if not vigilant, one may be pulled into the 5th Dimension portal known as “Tripp’s Run” on their way home!

Introducing the “wormhole of magic” located in the Little City of Falls Church
2726cc67a55fb59bcf48876e0ffe6565.jpg

This wormhole is of the trasversable variety, with two bi-directional portals.

The western portal on N. Cherry Street is guarded by 2 Qin Shi Huang Terracotta Soldiers, who despite their best efforts, are hardly incognito in their seasonal outfits!
035368802e5e5a35e35d8fdd7b63fe21.jpg

But the eastern portal on Midvale St is guarded by a fryckin’ wizard [emoji3316], Lorenzo the Great, who merits his own landmark on Google Maps, and has his own website!! http://lorenzomagic.com/
If that is not a portal to the 5th Dimension, then I don’t know what is [emoji15]!!

A wormhole from Chain Bridge to the Capital Crescent Trail (CCT). Use this wormhole if you want to avoid riding on C&O Canal Trail. To do that you will have to cross Canal Road NW.

Now for the last wormhole (3/3)

Last, but also quite famous if you’ve ever been to Antwerp (and especially ridden a bicycle there) is the Sint Annatunnel. Opened in 1933, the escalators are original. 574m long, and 31.57m underground, it is a marvelous thing to behold. 3 photos: the western entrance building, a shot of the escalator, and the tunnel itself.

I’ve not posted wormholes for a bit because so many of them have been covered with ice or snow. And now they’re mudpits. But today was beautiful (compared to the last two or three) so I ventured forth to one of my favorites. It’s in Herndon and allows you to avoid a lot of Elden Street traffic. Because it goes off the end of Nash St, I’m calling it Nashole (also because it leads to the middle school and a name like this would crack my middle schoolers up)

Dora Kelly Hyperspace Junction

Otherwise known as Dora Kelly Nature Park, this nexus includes several useful wormholes including a dry crossing of Holmes Run. It connects Bailey’s Crossroads/Skyline, Alexandria West and Lincolnia Heights. As befits such an intense concentration of spatial anomalies, there is a strong gravity well. So you will need good brakes for the approach and good climbing legs (or a granny gear) to escape.

As one whose name is Kelley and who gets it spelled incorrectly a LOT, I was thrilled to discover Dora Kelley Nature Park. So in Dora’s interest, and knowing that she probably received the same misspelling treatment, I beg all to remember that extra “E” …

The Kutner Park wormhole connects Jermantown Road to Fairchester Drive (allows you to go through a neighborhood to avoid Routes 29/50 to be able to cross over Route 123).

We are back from the future. Go tell your old self to buy some TP.

I am sponsoring the Wormhole prize this year again, and recognize Boomer, bikenick as winners of the 2020 edition and SteveO has the OG of Wormholes.

Could we have the #FSWormhole added to the leaderboard?

RULES:

Have you ever bent the spacetime continuum on a ride and wondered how did I get there so fast and yet it seemed slow?

If the concept of time is just something to be toyed with, then this prize is for you!

What’s a wormhole? It’s kinda like you know it when you ridden through it.

******* EDIT *******

I am going to edit this rule from last year: Once a wormhole has been identified, that is it others can go interstellar on it but they won’t get a further point.

CHANGE: Even if it’s identified/claimed by someone else and you ride through it, you can still ### it and gather a point.

The whole point of this side quest is make our connections between places easier, so go on and hypercyclespace your away around.

********************

Claim your spatial discovery on Strava with #FSWormhole and give it NAME (ie: The universe’s most inadvisable wormhole) and describe it here, post photos etc.

We have some previous explored wormholes from the past edition, which if you get to ride them this year you can claim but as always there are extra points for novelty and quality of wormholes.

What makes a quality wormhole? You know it once you ridden through them, if it brings a smile to you face you are doing it right, if it almost kills you talk to Steve.

Ride on,

Filipe
