#FSWormhole – Escape from Van Dorn

For those not in the know, there exists a trail along Van Dorn Street. The trail starts at Eisenhower Avenue, goes underneath the Beltway and brings you into Fairfax. Once into Fairfax, you will want to escape the madness of Van Dorn. That is just mere feet away from the sound wall. Look closely and you will see your escape route to Saratoga Street. From there, the world of Fairfax is open to you. You can work your way to Franconia Road or ride up and down hills to Clermont Drive and return through the Gates of Mordor to Alexandria.

This wormhole connects the center of McLean to Langley, VA.

The first part from McLean consists of a dirt path with various rocks, paving stones, trees, and roots.

The second part is about 1/4 mile loose gravel road.

#FSWORMHOLE HerndonHyperHop New wormhole (to me – and it didn’t look well traveled so maybe wasn’t a factor before – but with Metro coming in 2021, will become more useful).

Two wormholes- both at Lake Anne in Reston. On the blue trail around the north side of the lake paralleling North Shore Drive.2fab93857dc203dbae767ebc785be3c0.jpg

Currently the only way in or out of Tysons to/from the north. Not recommended for casual bicyclists due to the lack of shoulders, exits and entrances to Dulles Toll Road and traffic, though it’s just a short distance up to the Odricks Corner intersection (Lewinsville Road) and a paved sidewalk may be accessed just north of the freeway mess. Lewinsville Road has a bike lane heading to McLean, and the first turn north of the intersection (Summerhill) springs you out to bucolic roads in Great Falls and the vicinity of Reston.

Pro tip when heading north: wait for the traffic to go through the light, then get some speed going down the hill and out to Lewinsville.
Pro tip southbound (into Tysons): find an alternate route?

#FSwormhole “TyCo DefGrav 01”

This wormhole is located among the sprawling roadways of high speed traffic in Tyson’s Corner, and allows one to “DEFY GRAVITY” (hence the abbreviated name) by taking an aerial passage over the “intersection of no crossing” at Tyson’s Blvd & Chain Bridge Rd (route 123) which has no provisions for through traffic of cars, let alone pedestrians or cyclists, entering or exiting Tyson’s Corner Center Mall.

6fe23d319076911fd31e72449a4001e1.jpg

I discovered this one night while scouting out my TyCo #publicartfinder route when I confronted a strong force field that repelled my forward progress (in the form of 8 lanes of high-speed motorized traffic). However upon looking up, I noted an aerial portal that looked promising!
ff74aa4a180df8bde50340b9388c6a6b.jpg
This wormhole is accessed by 2 different types of anti-gravitational mechanisms that elevate people with or without bikes to a complex of multiple portals, one of which leads to a warp-drive propulsion device simply known as “metro”
d7d959c42c42ac5ef4d7d11b254ea9a7.jpg
We took the portal to the center of consumerism and an open courtyard where strange biped creatures walked around carrying bags with various markings on them. Once at the courtyard, we were able to ride down a ramp (kinda like a wormhole in a wormhole) and rejoin motorized traffic, but in thinner numbers and slower speeds than encountered at the wormhole’s entrance on the opposite side of the “intersection of no crossing.”

The benefit of this wormhole is that it takes you from one place to another place that is impossible to reach by any other means regardless of your mode of ground transportation.

It is of the 2-way Traversable variety, interuniversal, though one could argue that the courtyard of consumerism is indeed an alien [emoji89] universe unto itself.

#FSwormhole – TyCo DefGrav 02

This gravity-defying, aerial wormhole is in close proximity to TyCo DefGrav 01 though not nearly as complex, and the atmospheric version of the Scott’s Run Crossing previously dubbed by Uber wormhole Hunter huberww so it is indeed traversable on the ground as well as by air. It is located at the McLean Metro Stn on Scott’s Crossing Drive and allows safe passage over Rt123 (Dolly Madison Blvd).
b80202f7297ecdcdd8f95f6bba75c489.jpg

Again access is via an anti gravitational mechanism to an elevated portal that provides safe passage over Rt 123 (Dolly Madison Blvd) and connects to the “Mitre Complex Wormhole” also described earlier in this thread by Pedalwan huberww (?)367dd7ff47f22be2f30294b36b7968ec.jpg

This wormhole connects Idylwood Rd and Haycock Rd (McLean/Falls Church, VA) without having to ride on a narrow portion of Great Falls St.

The entry/exit on Idylwood is between the 267 overpass and the church. It is a curb hop to a paved path which leads to Greenwich St after a very small dirt section. Winding through the neighborhood brings the exit/entry to Turner Ave at Haycock Rd. The sign at Haycock for Turner says “No Outlet”, which is not true. There also is a third entry/exit to Great Falls St from Hutchinson St.

Entrance from Idylwood Rd.
