I thought perhaps a thread for the technology team might be in order.

This year we’re managing the Freezing Saddles software (hosted on GitHub) through a Project Kanban board. We’re communicating primarily through a Freezing Saddles Slack group. I’m leading the team this year and have been doing most of the programming and almost all of the operations, but I’m eager to teach others what they need to know. jrenaut has also contributed already this year (again! thank you!) and I’m looking forward to getting more active contributions from the other technology team members.

If you have a problem with the Freezing Saddles web site, you can post about it here, or add a note to the board or to the freezing-web issues.

We’ve made some good progress this year, after some initial hiccups in transition. hozn originally wrote software that runs the freezingsaddles.org site using Python, Flask, SQLAlchemy, Alembic, and some other frameworks, and last year he completed Dockerizing it. This year it runs on a Digital Ocean droplet that hozn is graciously footing the bill for again this season. Now the challenge is to finish up the team scoring

His activities appear to have been corrected for at least a week, so it has something to do with the data on the site.

Sounds like someone is jelly of Team 17: Ice, Ice, Baby’s crushing of all other team’s measly elevation efforts ;)

What evidence do you have to know this is illegitimate? Maybe PaytonJ did a shit ton of hill repeats. :) [Full disclosure: He’s my teammate.]

It looks to me like freezingsaddles.org keeps the climbing statistics from the first time it finds the ride. I have an ELEMNT Bolt that gives me too much climbing credit relative to Strava (maybe because I don’t use the aero mount which might keep the barometric elevation sensor from being affected as much by wind?). I eventually correct my elevation on the Strava web site, but the correction does not seem to pass through to freezingsaddles.org so my elevation per mile in Freezing Saddles is much higher than that calculated from my Strava training log.

A bunch of teams appear to have lost one of their team members – – I found seven teams that suddenly only have nine members including our own team nine license to chill which suddenly dropped into seventh Place after being in third place yesterday. Our team member Adriana Has no idea why she was dropped from our team.

And suddenly today I (Ken L) have only ridden one day in Freezing Saddles for a puny 11 points. No wonder Team 11 dropped to 16th.

Our long national nightmare is over. Order appears to have been restored in the universe!

Hi! It’s me! The new problem child. I can’t figure out why my ride today isn’t positing to the website. I’ve given Freezing Saddles permissions again and checked to make sure my privacy settings are all correct on strava. Can you help? :)

It’s fixed! I just needed to be patient apparently. Thanks for being amazing anyway!!

Obscure Richard: You do not need to hear the long and torturous story of my Garmin woes. However, I had to do a SOFT RESET today. My long ride of today labeled MIKE’S 80th BIRTHDAY PARTY (image attached) is on my desktop Strava, but I cannot see it on my feed.

I just wanted to make sure that those miles made it into my data. Kindly confirm. Many thanks, Jessica Hirschhorn

How many miles do you think you have for the year? Strava says you have 1186, BAFS has pulled in 1183. That ride IS in the database so it should be counted in your mileage.

I have 1186. I lost 3 last week in the Ag Reserve when the Garmin lost Satellite. Sound like all accounted for. Thanks for following that up. Hoping that the Garmin will behave from now on.

    Regards, Jessica

    Hi Tech Gurus,

I have ridden every day, but the leaderboard shows me one day short. The dropped day was probably in early February, at least that seems to be when I stopped turning green every day. I am not missing big miles, but the Team won’t mind if my day’s point are restored. I just want credit for everyday riding– I’m up here at 10,000 feet in snow and ice, earning my Freezing Saddles cred, and have not missed a day in 4 years.
    Thanks! Kate MO

I requested to follow you on Strava but actually don’t need to, I figured it out. It is, once again, a function of time zones. Freezing Saddles counted your 2/19 ride as happening on 2/20 because we normalize to east coast time. I always forget – we count days based on local time where the ride happened, is that right?
