I got inspired by National Pie Day on January 23 and hereby offer this Freezing Saddles side game.

The National Day calendar lists several different things to celebrate or honor on each day of the month. On that day, do something or celebrate one of those things and involve your bicycle.

For instance, on National Pie Day I provided pie to everyone who came to WTF Coffee Club. All of us could claim a celebratory point, since we rode our bikes to eat pie.
Today (Jan 30) is National Croissant Day. Not hard to figure out a bike-related way to celebrate. You get the idea.

All of the days will appear on the Freezing Saddles calendar. If you don’t already have the Google calendar integrated into your daily calendar, you can find the calendar on the Freezing Saddles home page by scrolling down. I will also post them here on this thread.

    Rules:

    • The game runs Feb 1 through Feb 29.
    • Your activity must occur on the actual day of celebration. This is honor system, although linking and hashtagging your Strava ride will be good documentation (#nationalday)
    • Take a photo that documents your celebration of the National Day involving your bike. Include an entertaining description if you like and post it here.
    • Both individual and team points will be awarded. If you celebrate with one or more other members of your team, be sure to note that to earn extra points.
    • Only one celebration per day per person. Many days celebrate or honor more than one thing. Choose.
    • National Days only. No International Days, even though Feb. 5 is World Nutella Day. Sorry.

Game starts in about 36 hours. Get ready!

Feb 10 is National Umbrella Day which we celebrated at the Alexandria Swings this morning. I will be saving my umbrella for this evening when I can celebrate National Umbrella Day with an adult beverage.

I recognize the trail in that clip! It’s the Milwaukee lakefront. I’ve never seen anyone riding there with one of those ridiculous umbrellas, however.

I celebrated National Toothache Day on February 9th by buying toothpaste for Mrs. DisasterJack.

I don’t often get a Mai Tai or a Thai Tiger but when I do like have it on National Umbrella Day on Feb 10.63f845ad1f8204393e8ae7dd8850559a.jpgc36adb6258a184798cc74ec92d83ad95.jpg

Feb 11 is National Inventors’ Day so I stopped by the Patent and Trade Office. If you haven’t been to the National Inventors Hall of Fame and Museum, it’s worth a trip. https://www.uspto.gov/about-us/uspto-locations/alexandria-va/national-inventors-hall-fame-and-museum

For the second day in a row I wimped out on the cold, wet morning ride and rode inside instead – having to spend every day this week in an audit is suffering enough. But I am observing National White Shirt Day, both on the bike and off.

Yesterday was National Make a Friend Day. I went to the Teams 19 & 26 happy hour at the Thirsty Crow and made 3 new friends! Cassy, Emily and Jason (not pictured here).

In addition to make a new friend national day it was also white shirt national day on Feb 11. To celebrate I wore a white shirt to the Team 19 and 26 happy hour where many of us made new friends.

Feb 12, I had the difficult decision to go with National Plum Pudding Day or …. ok, went with National Plum Pudding. Fxbooks made some from scratch and I and a few friends enjoyed it after dinner/happy hour at Dominion Beer and Wine. Plum pudding is surprisingly easy to make; you just say, “Fxbooks, will you make some plum pudding?”

Not knowing what plum pudding is, I looked it up and discovered it is a “Christmas pudding … traditionally composed of thirteen ingredients, symbolizing Jesus and the Twelve Apostles.” At that point I realized I was totally out of my element and so just ate some dried plums as a way of observing the day.

Happy National Cheddar Day! To honor this occasion, I took my favorite afternoon snack on a quick CaBi ride to Long Bridge.
