To the gentleman who passed me right by the Falls Church Firehouse on the W&OD this morning saying “Do you smell that?” No, I hadn’t until you mentioned it.
What in the name of god is that smell? Did someone throw some rotten durian out by that playground? Is that where Frank the Marmalade Cat keeps his not-so-fresh kills?

Playground rules: He who smelt it dealt it.
Sure the gentleman didn’t do it?
Whatever construction project they have going on over there (is it technically in Arlington County?) has already been nicknamed “Sewage Towers” that place has stunk pretty bad for at least a few weeks. Probably going to stink for quite a few more as well.
As an aside, does anyone know what project this is?

I don’t know Dickie, no disrespect meant, but anyone making the comment, “…so as not to slow me down…” referring to their usage of a multi-use trail might indicate a problem in our thinking is all I’m saying.
We should be willing to be ‘slowed down’ and to slow down when peds are shar.
You are completely missing the point of the comment, of this thread, and since you dont know Dickie, of Dickie. Dickie (and this thread) is complimenting the person on being courteous. Step back, take a breath and think about it. Your relatively new to this community. You have misread the thread, misread the person, and misread the comment. Please put your guns away. You are demanding that someone else be more considerate. Well, I think that might be a message well heeded.

It’s no fun seeing a mass of steel, arms, and legs bearing down on you…
So, my two takeaways here are:
1. Steel is real.
2. Riders with spindly arms on crabon bikes are inconsequential.Works for me.

ParticipantNVR, but reminds me of a joke I heard this morning…
How could they be so sure that the skeletal remains recently discovered under a parking lot in England were those of Richard III?
He was found under a two-door.

The only thing worse than this storage facility is the insane contortionist layout they had created trying to shoe-horn a grocery store on the site to get the Sector Plan’s bonus density.

It would have been good for the trail and would have saved the historic siding, but pretty much everything else about the project was horrid.

ParticipantHow can you tell it is rotten durian? Does it smell good if it’s rotten?

ParticipantI think this qualifies as a found connection: while going on a longer-than-5-mile bike ride (the first I’ve done in about a week and a half due to being sidelined by a cold) this evening, I noticed a driver on Memorial Bridge whose front right tire was flat. Even with the wind, I could smell the tire, which probably meant that she had been driving with it flat for quite some time.
She got caught up in the traffic on the DC side of the bridge heading to the Rock Creek Parkway, so I stopped on the sidewalk and eventually got her attention. She rolled down the window, and I told her the tire was flat (she was already aware of this) and that the sidewall was tearing.
She said that she was looking for a good spot to pull over to assess the tire damage. Now, I know how to change a tire (car and bike), but I figured that a young woman would not want to stop and get out of her car on the side of the road at night with a complete stranger, so I told her to be careful until she eventually pulls over. Here’s hoping that she made it to a good spot to replace the tire (I figure the next good spot would be the gas station at Rock Creek Pkwy/Virginia Ave).
