Me: riding in the bike lane in Braddock Road.
Me: “oh, that driver was nice to give me additional room.”1 second later –
Me: “oh, they have a bike rack. It’s good when bike people look out for each other.”1 second later –
Me: “oh, wait, that’s Emm! I wonder if she recognized me.”1 second later –
Emm: wavesGood to see a friend out on the road.

I waved and shouted too when I drove past, then realized “maybe he thought I was a mean driver cursing at him… I hope he didn’t think that…”. Glad to know you recognized me

Officers are starting to string yellow caution tape, but the road is still open. No one stops or redirects me.
About 2/3rds of the way to 17th, they have strung the yellow tape all the way across and also along the sidewalks and everywhere. I am certain I will have to backtrack all the way back. I start slowing and looking for some way through, but the tape is surrounding me on three sides.
And then! A miracle! One of the officers who has just strung the tape lifts it up high and holds it for me to ride under and escape to the west.
Me: “Thank you very much, sir!”
Him: “You’re welcome”July 11, 2019 at 2:44 pm #1099697DrewdaneParticipantYou: The ten (I counted) riders who passed me in rapid succession yesterday (yeah yeah, I’m slow), all of whom called their pass.
Me: flabbergasted.
July 18, 2019 at 1:20 am #1099797DrPParticipantMe: Cycling west on Fairfax Drive in bike lanes approaching Glebe.
You: Bus driver who kindly moves to the right turn lane behind me rather than cutting me off as so many do. Waves to me as we wait at the light. Then opens your window and says hello.
Me: Good evening.
We then chat about how far I bike each day and you are impressed. The left turn light turns green and we prepare for our green light. I hear a cyclist behind me coming up fast who then passes me (light is still red and left turn light turning yellow) races through the intersection, aims for the curb in the bike lanes that start on the other side of Glebe and jumps it continuing down the PBL in a zig-zag.
Me: arms and shoulders in a “what the…” motion and phrasing to match.
You: laughing and shaking your head.
We wave and go our ways as the light turns green.January 22, 2020 at 1:29 pm #1103650HancockbsParticipantThanks to Millie T. for stopping to ensure I was okay while changing a tire in freezing cold!

For some reason this day drivers were parked all over the place in travel lanes chatting it up with people on the street.
I was heading home, flying down Hillcrest SE as you do when I come around the bend and see a driver just parked in the lane on this narrow hill just hanging out… probably an Uber driver. I hit my brakes hard, but it’s clear that I’d have to really slam them on if I actually want to stop behind this car for the oncoming traffic going up the hill. Big thanks to the guy in the pickup who saw the BS on my side of the road and paused to let me go around without having to take emergency maneuvers. I gave a wave, he waved back. All felt right with the world for a few minutes.
