Well, that could be just an artifact of his speed relative to mine, as I’m very slow. I tried to catch up with him to ask what on earth he was wearing, but had no success.

My guess is one of the Sugoi Zap jackets, with all-over reflection.

I have one of these after I saw someone else wearing it. It doesn’t breathe very well so in early fall when the time changes but the temp is still warm it can be clammy to wear but I don’t care. There’s absolutely no way some one could say “I didn’t see you.”

I so quickly cross that line from cold to clammy, that I think ALL cycling jackets should have pit zips. But so many of them don’t. My mission is to get good at sewing the zippers in myself.
Last year I gave Peter one of the Zap Versa (convertible) jackets as a gift. He gives it a similar review, somewhat non-breathable but worth it in every other respect. They’ve got the reflective part nailed.

You’d be surprised (or maybe not). They will still say it, they’d just be a liar. Like the time, in full daylight AND with my tail light on, I had pulled up into the box in the left turn lane waiting for oncoming traffic to clear and the driver pulls around me very closely to position himself in front of me. His window was down so I began verbally reaming him a new one, and when I stopped to take a breath he says, “I didn’t see you.” Incredulous, all I could say was, “What?!?”. I was directly in front of him until he maneuvered around me. If he really could not see me, he was legally blind.

We need more people who drive cars to also be people who ride bikes.

Point taken, I counted 14.
In my case, if the guy really did not see me, I’m pretty sure I would still be recovering from the injuries, or at least riding a new bike.

I totally passed that test. Is it because I ride a bike and drive a car?

With all of the lights I use* (two red BA blinkies on the rear of my helmet with brand new batteries so they’re so bright they’ll sear your retinas thank you SteveO, a steady red light on my seat post, two spoke lights on each wheels in pink and blue, wrap-around frame light in hot pink, flashing arm bands in neon blue and finally my front light) plus all of the reflective stuff I wear (ankle bands, stickers on my helmet, stickers on my fenders, stickers on my saddle bag, stickers on my backpack, reflective hang tag on backpack) PLUS that light-up jacket, there is no way anyone could say “I didn’t see you” with a straight face if it’s dark out.
I look almost radioactive I’m so lit up.

ParticipantGood god. How long does it take to turn all those lights on/off?! You need a universal remote!

How could he still be seen as he disappeared in the distance if he was only shining because of reflected light?

Because he was a much more effective reflector than his surroundings. If he could turn around and see cvcalhoun’s light, he could reflect some of it back.

Do aircraft ever try to follow you when you ride through Gravelly Point?
