    Feeding Saddles

This started with a typo. Instead of “Freezing Saddles”, I accidentally typed “Feeding Saddles”.

And then I thought, shit, winter biking is great, but it would also be great to feed some people. While initially I envisioned having everyone bike cans of beans and jars of peanut butter to their local food pantries, my friend Christy reminded me that the most efficient way to get food to people who need it is to raise cash. (Also, food is heavy to haul on your bike.)

And so: the Feeding Saddles Digital Food Drive: https://give.capitalareafoodbank.org/feedingsaddles

Let’s try to raise at least $500 — but more importantly, can we get at least 50 Freezing Saddles participants to chip in any amount to support Capital Area Food Bank by donating through this page? The process is fast, easy and secure.

Let’s show the world that we are not just assholes in lycra. We are asshholes in lycra … who care.

Thanks so much for your support… and please don’t forget to send this page to any friends you think might be interested in donating!

Donated! What a blast from the past: A similar “Feeding Saddles” fundraiser back in 2014 was what got me to finally stop lurking and sign up for Freezing Saddles.

Thanks for setting this up, rumipumi!

Done! What a great idea. I see so many in our region who need this extra support this year. Thanks, Rumi.

So glad this is here. I couldn’t do it last night during happy hour due to tech issues, so today I could come back. I think this is a great way, on behalf of the cycling community, to also give kudos to Bike Arlington for hosting Freezing Saddles. I mean – they don’t charge us anything to play so whatever we would pay for this much fun is what we should be donating to Feeding Saddles!

Bumping this and adding some updates.

$3,203 has been raised fir the Capital Area Food Bank. The original goal was $500!

UPDATE: as of Friday 1/8 at 3:30pm ET we have 38 FS donors — can we get 12 more Assholes in Lycra (who care) to chip in any amount?

As of 4pm on 2/5, it’s up over $4300! The food banks have been so stretched this past year, so thank you, rumipumi, for setting this up!
