February 5, 2018 at 5:31 pm #1083559bentbike33ParticipantThere was a sizable ice patch on the Custis east of the moguls at the intersection with the side trail up to 20th St. I saw what looked like a red bike light (still lit, but not blinking) that may have fallen off in a crash among the debris up against the wall on the I-66 (westbound) side of the trail. If you went down on that ice and are missing a light, you might want to look around for it there.

We all know that trees don’t come down on their own, so it must have been…
Judd Fitzgerald* Lumberjack, look what you did! Clean up your mess right now!
* totally made up middle name but sounds great when scolding someone by their full name

I finally got revenge on that bridge for taking me out on AFHokie’s ride to Annapolis.

One on the grass and one on the trail hissing at me as I rode by. I swear this gets earlier each year.
So, warning geese are in their protective mode. No goslings yet spotted.

Response to a suspicious vehicle. Appears to be unfounded.

According to the Secret Service Twitter feed – suspicious vehicle in the area (“near 17th street NW”) that resulted in the evacuation of the New Executive Office Building and various road closures.

They really should have just had the president leap into action in full action-movie glory.
February 28, 2018 at 2:59 pm #1084658TwoWheelsDCParticipantOh my god the Custis “detour” in Rosslyn is amazing! Can we just leave it the way it is permanently (restoring the path for peds, of course)?

YES! And extend it all the way to Cherrydale (where the third lane WB goes away).
PS. If you like this detour and think that the detour when they fix the undulations near McCoy Park (Mom’s), then now would be a good time to write des@arlingtonva.us and trails@arlingtonva.us to tell them.
March 1, 2018 at 1:50 pm #1084720huskerdontParticipantPic of the detour for folks that don’t go that way or haven’t yet. I really enjoyed it, both uphill and downhill. Mode separation (if pedestrians remained inside the sound wall and bikes were outside, where the detour is now) would be a great thing through here. The downside is the diesel exhaust that gets caught along the sound wall. I nearly choked yesterday going up after a dirty bus. And of course, that area up against the sound wall could get hot during the summer, but it’s summer, so Rule#9.
