ParticipantOne of the local kids (well, he’s probably 15 or 16) stopped me the other day and asked where I could buy one of those “yellow bikes” (I was on my own bike; not sure why he asked me). He heard that there’s a crew that has been selling the bikes for $20 or so, presumably after breaking the lock, and thought I’d know.

CaBi terms of use don’t permit alterations or additions to their bikes and the axle nuts are shrouded so can’t be made to tow a trailer but I’m unsure about the others. There could be a use case for cargo e-bikeshare if JUMP is successful.
Interesting idea. There have been a few times where it would have been nice to have a cargo bike available to rent. From a quick google skim, it looks like there are some of these in existence.

Spinlister is the only bike share app I know if that might have a cargo bike.
It’s not a bad concept, but I could never see listing my bikes for the same reasons I’d never list my truck for rent.

ParticipantWTOP report someone left a LimeBike on the platform at Minnesota Ave station Sunday evening and another man, now in custody, threw it onto the tracks where an orange line train ran over it damaging the train and for Metro to single track on that stretch for 4 hours.

Given that they have embedded GPS, that would appear a rather hazardous undertaking. Unless you could disable the GPS as well as the lock, you’d be caught pretty quickly.

They’re not the first. Mobike signed on several months ago as a business sponsor. Motivate (the operator of CaBi) is also a business sponsor.

ParticipantI watched a kid ride a pretty sweet wheelie down Mass Ave as he went through the intersection at NJ/G/1st St NW on a Spin bike yesterday.
Even more impressive that he wasn’t creamed by either the bus or three cars he cut off while doing said wheelie

ParticipantOn Dec 5 the Advisory Neighborhood Commissions for Ward 2 met with representatives from DDoT and the 5 DoBi companies in a town hall. A Google site for the meeting is linked here and a list of questions they were asking of the DoBi companies was posted here. Fox5 News report on the town hall gave little information other than to say DDoT is interested in seeing how the DoBi bikes cope with winter and the demonstration will end in May, but Gear Prudence who attended reported a somewhat hostile reception from residents, audience support for JUMP’s U-Lock, and 56,000 DoBi rides in October 2017.
In other news DDoT and Howard U are advertizing a Paid internship to study Dockless Bikeshare.
