Well done. The location of the bikes you moved is actually in Alexandria. Lime is the first company approved to work in Alexandria. Like Arlington, Alexandria expects the bikes to not block the sidewalk.
That’s definitely on the Alexandria side. The pilot rules for Alexandria and Arlington are very similar. Thanks for linking Alexandria’s rules Casey.

This sounds like easy KOT or QOT points for the person that puts in a call click connect ticket with Alexandria.

Since this is on a sidewalk and NOT a trail, it’s really not as poorly placed of a trash can as it may look in the photo. To move it off the sidewalk you’d kill some grass which I’m not a fan of. Two people can walk next to it, and if you’re on a bike you just wait a second if someone is coming the opposite way before passing it. It’s never been an issue on my commute since I expect trash cans on sidewalks, and I also try to limit my sidewalk riding. Honestly, the only reason to ride that short segment of the sidewalk is if you’re coming from 4mrt to 4 mile rd, which not too many people do and if you really wanted to do the right thing, you’d cross at the crosswalk at Mt Vernon/Glebe, then ride on the road, and skip that section of sidewalk entirely. Riding on that sidewalk is not required.
My concern is they might remove the trash can if it gets reported as in the way, and honestly, there needs to be one there since it’s by a bunch of restaurants and other businesses. And that’d lead to trash all over the sidewalk and grass, which would net negative KOT/QOT points.

I never checked — if not, even moving it back a foot or so, so that it just touched the edge of the sidewalk (but still sat fully on the paved surface) would “reclaim” that wasted strip of sidewalk currently behind the trash can… Perhaps I’ll have a look tonight!

I believe the word lumberjack, when used as a verb, is not capitalized.
I look forward to its migration to other parts of speech:
- (verb as infinitive) see Judd’s phrase above
- (adverb) “The bikes were lumberjackingly moved.” (lumberjackly”?)
- (adjective) “The lumberjacked bikes can still be easily accessed.”
- (gerund) “Lumberjacking is a great way to earn KOT/QOT points.”
- (interjection) “Lumberjack!”

Immediately brings to mind the classic old Schoolhouse Rock cartoon for “Interjections!” (Hurray!)
January 24, 2019 at 10:27 pm #1094730ChristoB50Participant…and that was easy! The trash can in question was not an anchored one. I moved it back a foot.
Alas, the four Lime bikes that I moved — er, lumberjacked — yesterday on to the grassy area, are visible in the picture at back left, all fallen over like dominoes… I suppose the day of rain made the ground too soggy for their kick stands to resist sinking into… Should I feel guilty about this? (Seriously?)

And if you try to contact LimeBike to ask further questions, you get a canned response that doesn’t actually answer the question. (Yes, I tried that, too.)
Just like CaBi!

No.

Perhaps just in the Bay Area? They just put the electric bikes onto Arlington’s streets within the past month or so.
