Discussion in Amsterdam: Hummer bicycles

Dutch newspaper “Parool” has an article today about bicycles with crates on the steering wheel. These “crate bicycles” are wider than regular bicycles and take up more space in bicycle parking.

Opponents talk of “hummer bicycles” and complain that the 50 cm-wide bicycles make parking spaces scarce (regular bicycle is about 40 cm, according to the article).

The city of Amsterdam is placing several bicycle parking racks that will make place for these popular new bikes.
