If you read the comments below the comic, it appears there are some who would love to do it . . . yikes.

Tony Kornheiser tried this sort of humor a few years ago too. So if you are run over, your survivors can sue Mr. Pastis for damages as well.

You guys are taking a comic strip a bit too seriously.

The experience of being near aggressive/careless drivers riding in thousands of pounds of metal will do that to a cyclist.

P.S. Not all drivers are aggressive. Only a few are, but there are enough to make one nervous about this sort of attitude.

I was deliberately hit by a jackass in a rental car this morning and spent my first half hour at work talking to fairfax PD. I still say you guys are taking a comic strip too seriously.

Still not convinced, especially after seeing some of the comments on the comic strip, and other apoplectic comments on other articles. I don’t care if someone dislikes cyclists. I don’t like all cyclists myself. But it’s another matter to be letting forth a battle cry against all cyclists. Unfortunately there are some people in real life who sound just like that cat character. And it only takes a momentary lapse of judgment for a driver to do real damage out on the roads.

Will this comic strip make me stop cycling? Of course not. But I can’t deny that I have a problem with the strip and the comments in support of running over cyclists.

Pretty much any article on a major news site dealing with cycling (positively or negatively) will be littered with comments like that. I don’t even bother reading them anymore.

Sadly there are a great number of cyclists who make this comic reality. With a bike lane or a huge shoulder… riding in the middle of the road… I ride 150 miles per week, and those people make ME want to run them over too.

Yesterday’s Pearls Before Swine is amusing. It introduces the Pyramid of Humanity…
