For sweat/salt I keep a cotton bandana/kerchief tied to the handlebars for my clear/sun glasses most seasons. It kinda works in the rain/mist when wet (turns droplets into non-beaded moisture) but you still do have to stop every once in a while to clear them.

It may be a little unorthodox and I’m sure it violates “the rules,” but I wear a rain cover on my helmet and a full baseball cap under it. It works great, even in the heaviest rain. Not sure how it looks, and in the pouring rain, I don’t care. I think contacts are the only answer for mist, but fortunately we don’t get that too much around here.

My problem with a helmet cover is that when commuting I use a visor mounted mirror and a helmet mounted light, neither of which is compatible with the cover (which I also use at times witha different helmet). I also have a problem with many caps since for some silly reason they insist on constructing them with a “button” in the middle of the top. This gets pressed into the top of my head by my helmet. Cycling caps and most running caps are ok for me under my helmets, but not a baseball style cap.

I wear a long billed baseball cap under my helmet. I skip my safety/sunglasses when it’s raining. It also looks oh-so-stylish.
