The logic of the reg is universal: if you don’t have it, no cyclist would be allowed to pass another cyclist.

It’s nice the officer attempted an apology, but IMO it wasn’t very good. “My apologies for any confusion caused.”? No. The officers didn’t cause any confusion. Confusion by the officer, rather, was the source of the problem. It’s as if the officer knew an apology was warranted (which is good!) but couldn’t actually admit what went wrong.

I mean, yes, but when have you ever seen an American police officer apologize? Admit that there’s any possibility he was wrong? It’s not often.

They may be told not to apologize as that admits fault and could invite legal action. Or they could just be made that way. No idea.

Slightly related because police, yesterday I was riding down Key Blvd with the notorious traffic-calming circles ahead that seem to make drivers oblivious to oncoming traffic. As I approached N. Danville, I passed an ACPD SUV with its window open, saw a car approaching the intersection (she had the stop and I had the right-of-way), and so as usual I was on alert. I needed to be since she blew the stop sign and I hit the brakes to avoid a collision. I heard the siren go and was satisfied to circle back and see her pulled over.

I suppose in retrospect I didn’t need to flip her off.
