I have the good fortune to be going on a bike trip to Italy this fall. While most of the ride is planned, there will be two “rest” days on which we can do our own thing. I, of course, am thinking of throwing in some one-day bike excursions.

Anyone know where I can get good bike maps of Ferrara and Bologna? Also any tips from those who have ridden in this region would be appreciated. Have already checked out EuroVelo and there are numerous resources via the web. Just wondering which are worth using and whether any should be avoided.

Ask your tour guides — they might know some good loops. Also, I’ve just used regular maps purchases locally and biked wherever I want to go (staying off of major freeways, of course). Italian automobile drivers are very good around cyclists in those regions, probably because they are cyclists themselves.
