Tim – I can make it to the Nov. 8 one. I might be there a little later than 4:30 though.

Hi Everyone, get excited–this is the one you’ve been waiting for!

We’ve got lots of blinky lights, reflective pant straps and reflective safety vests to give out to the ninjas that may be caught out after dark after the Daylight Saving Time change this coming weekend and we need your help in passing them out!

For those who helped out last year, we’re going to be following the same basic routine as last year. We’re planning on setting up trail side and nicely accosting anyone who comes by with free gear to get them seen!

Volunteers will be needed to help flag down riders and runners, install lights, and answer any questions. It’s a fun time (Pete makes it especially fun) and you get to meet lots of other forum regulars! We’ll even set you up with some extra lights and straps to take a long with you to pass out in travels. Here are some photos from last year: http://www.facebook.com/media/set/?set=a.216279175107273.48710.205971902804667&type=3

So, here are the dates and times that we are looking to do it:

    Monday, November 5th – Custis/Lynn St/Lee Highway/Mount Vernon Trail (4:30pm – 6:30 pm)

Thursday, November 8th – Intersection of Custis Trail and W&OD Trail, Mile Marker 4 (4:30pm – 6:30 pm)

    Thursday, November 15th – Intersection of W&OD Trail and Columbia Pike, Mile 1.5 (4:30pm – 6:30 pm)
(Anyone who can speak Spanish is encouraged to attend this one!)

Leave a quick reply on this thread, or send an email to info@bikearlington.com if you can make it. Come to one, or come to all three!

    See you out there!

OK, I was stupid this morning, and in not following my normal routine I left my headlight plugged into the charger instead of reinstalling it on my bike. I didn’t discover this until I hauled the bike out of the car at the mechanic’s just south of Old Town. Makes me glad I have the Bike Arlington back up blinkies for my homebound ride. I may actually make it home before sunset and with no rain in sight (or hopefully not until after 5 pm), won’t be a ninja.

See you out at the Custis and W&OD tomorrow.

I was hoping to be able to help out at the light giveaway tonight, but although I’m gaining on them, the alien life forms that invaded my sinuses don’t seem quite ready to raise the surrender flag yet. Still hope to make the next one.

The Custis and W&OD intersection can be a pretty busy light giveaway spot. A good group will be on hand tonight, but I’m sure any last minute volunteers would be appreciated. We had a lot of fun at this spot last year.

Last year I had a zombie apocalypse in my nose, so I can sympathize. Hope you are feeling better soon.

Great point on that being a busy intersection. Lots of people blow through the Custis stop sign. We’ll have some people up the hill to slow folks down.

    Rock and roll!

I’ll be there at 430, but if there’s something I can bring (although I can’t really think of what that might be), let me know…I’m planning on riding there straight from work, but my house is less than a mile from the site, so I can swing by quickly and pick something up.

I’ll stop by on my way home, but might not be able to stick around too long. Are we bringing bags for the plastic pull tabs that separate the batteries? I saw a bunch on the ground at the Rosslyn intersection of doom yesterday on my ride home. I realize it may have been windy and is difficult to see them in the dark, but making sure we clean up helps give cyclists a good name. At least better than the hoodlums that were celebrating outside the white house who made a mess on the pedestrian walk. ‘bunch of freedom lovers! I remember Tim having a trash bag for the plastic bits last year at this location. I’ll have an extra plastic grocery bag if we need it.

I’ll be riding through and will stop by too. But I don’t think I can stay.

We tried to be neat and tidy on Monday, but those things get a static charge and don’t like to go where they should.

There is a trash can at the intersection that we can utilize.

Another fun event! Thanks again, Zanna and Tim for all you and Bike Arlington do. It was great to see familiar faces and meet some new folks. Twowheels, I meant to welcome you to the neighborhood, but never quite got there.
    Cheers all!

Fun to stop by and briefly meet Zanna and Tim and pick up a couple lights this afternoon. Also good to see Steve and Dismal Scientist out and about.

Oh and I cant wait to see the shot of Dirt and me in matching Orange vests just up the trail! So cute.
