Just remembered about this event. Pretty sure our school doesn’t have a bike rack.

If your school doesn’t have a bike rack, please get in touch with the administration and let them know that you’d like to see a rack (or ideally, multiple racks) added!
April 30, 2013 at 7:24 pm #968719MikeyParticipantVirginia now has 76 schools participating. 31 are from Arlington – congrats Tim and Company for getting so much participation!
My wife and I are leading the charge at Olde Creek Elementary in Farifax, County. If there is any one out there who will be just east of FFX City on May 8th at around 7 AM and have nothing to do (no Bike 2 School day of their own to attend), but want to get some extra miles in and want to inspire some cool kids let me know. I’ve scored donated coffee from Zaxby’s (University Mall) for the volunteers so Coffee Club III at Olde Creek on Wednesday? ( We are about 6 miles south of the W&OD).
April 30, 2013 at 8:04 pm #968723jopamoraParticipantTim, thanks for posting the link to the Bike Arlington Bike/Walk to School page. The bike train resources are great.
I am too lazy to make it a school wide thing this year. So, I am going to use my kids and a neighbor’s kid as guinea pigs for next year. My only concerns are getting the bike train across 16th Ave, Georgia Ave and Colesville during rush hour. We’ve ridden some of the route on sidewalks a few times, but gonna take the lane.
If anyone needs kid safety vests, IKEA has em for cheap.
Where can I get bike shaped pins?

31 — isn’t that all of APS (aside from the special programs)? Great job! Is there anything us lay people can do to support the effort?
April 30, 2013 at 8:11 pm #968727Tim KelleyParticipantWe’ve been busy! We’ll keep you in the loop if we need volunteer greeters at any schools.
May 3, 2013 at 3:11 am #969081eminvaParticipantHello!
Sorry I haven’t been more on top of this; been busy with non-cycling affairs lately.
So far, Fairfax County has 34 schools participating and our goal is 50. If you are a county parent, you can check the link in the first post above to see if your son or daughter’s school is participating. If not, it is not too late to throw something together. See information on the website for last minute tips. If your child’s school is participating but you don’t see it listed, please register the school so it shows up on the website. Feel free to PM me for more info. Thanks!
It appears my kid is the only one in the convoy to Luther Jackson Middle School in the Merrifield area of Fairfax County. Anyone want to join us for the ride on Wednesday morning? I know Mike is offering coffee; if I have to up the ante I will. Pastries, too, at Pastry Xpo in Mosaic. Anyone care to join us? We can figure out a rendezvous spot and time if there is interest.
Thanks.

I’m so bummed, I would have certainly joined in, especially being in my “work hood”. Unfortunately I am driving to Toronto that day and had planned on leaving at dawn… what time were you planning on riding?
May 7, 2013 at 3:20 pm #969308MikeyParticipantUpdate,
Olde Creek E.S. in Fairfax is postponing our Bike to School Day festivities until June 12th because of weather. (We wanted to do it earlier but this was the only available morning in our little school’s schedule.) It means though that you can do your own school tomorrow (and get wet) and still come out and support our little school in Fairfax on June 12. We will have Bananas, coffee, free swag, bagles and cream cheese, and other goodies. Let me know if you are interested.
May 8, 2013 at 12:21 pm #969387consularriderParticipantSaw a couple of Swanson students participating in Walk your Bike to School day this morning. That hill climbing Patrick Henry over I-66 is tough for someone who doesn’t ride much. Washington-Lee postponed theirs until Friday because of today’s weather forecast.
May 8, 2013 at 1:11 pm #969393DismalScientistParticipantArlington Traditional postponed until next Wednesday. Probably due to high humidity or something. The word did not get out and the turnout was about the same as a real bike to school day.
May 8, 2013 at 1:26 pm #969396GreenbeltParticipantTurnout looked great in Brookland and on Capitol Hill. Lots of smiling kids!

Sorry I didn’t see this, but thanks! Hope you got off to Toronto safely.
We did ride this morning — will post photos a bit later. Rule 5, my kid.
