While riding in Pittsburgh this weekend, my riding buddy Randy found this fantastic slot car set. It is all there and the box is in great shape. He got it working after one quick repair. Sets with much more wear are selling for around $100.

It still pales to the best thing I ever found, a late 70’s Cook Brother’s 26″ Cruiser BMX converted to a geared MTB. I posted photos of it to MTBR and the offers starting coming in. I accepted an offer of $1500 from a guy running a BMX museum in San Diego. Another guy, who had offered a few hundred, then jumped to $2500, but I had already committed. The prices on vintage BMX bikes has dropped a lot since then. (I think it was around 1998)

    Anybody else find something cool?

Similar to what I found but not it: http://bmxmuseum.com/bikes/cooks_brothers/9289

I did return a wallet once. It was in the street. I checked the address and it was the house it was in front of. I assumed the dude dropped it out of his pocket after a night of drinking, because he was barely able to answer his door at 8am on a weekday to get his wallet back.

    Ooooh, fun question!!

    Let’s see, I’ve found….

-A pair of women’s gloves. Gave those to my wife
-Several one dollar bills found together on the side of Bradley Blvd. Wet and muddy and totally spendable
-A very well smashed and soaked iPhone (Ryan H actually spotted this but I picked it up…still have it for some reason)
-While riding near the Washington Monument a tourist handed me a mini Topeak multitool that is very handy and lives in my road bike saddlebag
-And my best find yet from last spring, a pretty decent puffy winter coat on the road next to the MoCo detention facility on Seven Locks. I washed it and wore it today in fact.

This morning in the trash in front of an Arlington tear down, new and in their original packaging, a garden hose nozzle with 7 settings (which I needed), universal anchor points (that I don’t have a need for, but hey, who knows when I might), and two boxes of 6d and 10d nails. There was more but there’s only so much I can stow in my pack and still pick up things at the grocery store tonight.

I found on Wilson Blvd the security badge for someone who had just started work at the FBI building downtown. I mailed it back to the FBI.
