Hello Everyone! I’m your team captain, Andy Reiman!
This is my 2nd year playing Freezing Saddles, with the first being the Pandemic Edition. I’ve been riding the DC metro area for the last 30 something years, now residing in McLean Virginia. Road, Trail, Gravel…it’s all good! Freezing Saddles was truly a high point of this crazy year for me. I rode every day of FS 2020 and tried to get at least 10 miles for every ride. That’s all you have to do to be successful. Ride every day and go for maximum points (see below). I’m looking to recapture that magic during FS 2021!
The incentive this year isn’t so much to ride high mileage, but to ride consistently daily. The first mile is worth 10 points and each mile thereafter is worth one less point until the 10th and subsequent miles, which are all worth only one point. Plus each ride day is worth 10 points. So a single 10 mile ride is worth 55 points + 10 points for the ride day = 65 points. If someone does two 10 mile rides on two different days, that’s worth 130 points. Compare that to someone who rides a single 20 miles ride on one day = 55 points for the first 10 miles + 10 points for the next 10 miles + 10 points for the ride day = 75 points. For that person to get the same amount of points in a single day, they’d have to ride 75 miles! So getting people to ride consistently (even if only a few miles each day) is a BIG DEAL and the way to rack up points.
Here’s what you need to do to get started:
1. Join our strava team https://www.strava.com/clubs/FS2021_HoneyBadgers
2. Post on this forum introducing yourself and letting us know how you like to be communicated with. We could do emails or a group text this year.
3. Ride every day & have fun!Honey Badger don’t care how cold, wet, snowy, or icy it is. Honey Badger gets on their bike and rides no matter what.
