The new scoring system is already scrambling things in an interesting way. I like it.
I also like this new scoring system. The one mile sleaze ride no longer looks appealing. I’m still trying to figure out what’s best. I’m guessing that it will be 7 or 8 for me.

My wife and I have both ridden every day. I have 3 more total miles than she does, and she has 4 points more than me. I am cautiously optimistic that this will increase team competitiveness.
I’m also hopeful that smaller teams will increase both competitiveness and enthusiasm. (It’s hard for people to be terribly motivated if they figure their miles are just a rounding error in team standings.) We’ll have to see once teams are assigned.

ParticipantWhere IS the new points system stated? I’ve scrolled through 20 pages of this “moderately amusing” thread and am none the wiser!

Points are determined by cow bingo, that’s why there’s sometimes a delay in seeing your scores on the leaderboard.

Here is the formula (to the best of my knowledge):
First mile riding bonus for each day you ride =10 points
+ Mile 1 = 10 points; Total 20 points
+ Mile 2 = 9 points; Total 29 points
+ Mile 3 = 8 points; Total 37 points
+ Mile 4 = 7 points; Total 44 points
+ Mile 5 = 6 points; Total 50 points
+ Mile 6 = 5 points; Total 55 points
+ Mile 7 = 4 points; Total 59 points
+ Mile 8 = 3 points; Total 62 points
+ Mile 9 = 2 points; Total 64 points
+ Mile 10 = 1 point; Total 65 points
+ Miles 11, 12, 13,…,N (where N is an arbitrarily large number of total miles) = 1 point per mile; Total 65 + (N-10) pointsJanuary 16, 2020 at 7:18 pm #1103322Jessica Hirschhorn
ParticipantLooks like 9 miles best bang for the buck, points-wise. My new SLEAZE.

That was precisely the point of changing the points system this year, to get people to do longer sleazes.

Sort of. The actual formula is a smooth line, so the last 1/10th of a mile 9.9 – 10.0 is actually worth a tiny bit more than 1/10th of a point.

Wait! I think I’m wrong about this. I believe it’s actually the last 10th from 8.9 – 9.0 that is worth slightly more. You may return to your 9-mile sleaze.

Wait! That’s not quite right either.
It’s the 1/10th from 9.4 to 9.5 that’s worth 0.105 points. The 1/10th from 9.5 to 9.6 is worth only 0.095.
That last 1/100th of a mile from 9.99 to 10 is the worst!! it’s .01 of a mile but only gets you .00505 of a point. The next 1/100th from 10.0 to 10.01 is worth almost twice as much!
Ride on!

16 is a lot less sleazy than 10…and if you live a place that doesn’t have moon rocks, but does use the metric system, 16.1 (ish) is the magical number! And 16 is more than 10, amirite?
