    Suggest you study the AASHTO documents on the topic before engaging in further speculation.

    If you don’t have a suggestion, then this continued argument seems silly. And, yes, one of the primary purposes of bollards is to prevent a-hole motorists from using MUPs as shortcuts (this would generally be over short segments between disconnected streets). People who make legitimate mistakes don’t generally pose much of a risk (they figure it out pretty quick and drive in a slow panic trying to figure out how to turn around) but the intentional abusers are intentionally reckless.

    I seriously doubt there are many motorists who use MUPs as shortcuts.
