This would be nice, especially if they include some stations in Old Town and maybe to the north, by Potomac Yard. That would make it easier to ride between Crystal City and Old Town within the 30-min. per ride time limit (before incurring add-on fees).

I think that it would be a home run, especially given how popular the various King Street buses are. The Prince/Cameron pair also make for a pretty good cycling route.

The Alexandria city council is expected to make a final decision soon.

I think they should install one station near the King St. Metro station. Then add four stations in Old Town and one station closer to Old Town North.

They should also coordinate with the FAST Potomac Yard group and see if they are willing to sponsor a station or two in the Alexandria section of Potomac Yard. FAST already sponsors the existing station at S. Glebe Rd., just across the border in Arlington. (The Crystal City BID co-sponsors most of the other Crystal City stations, but not the S. Glebe Rd. station.)

Extra stations in the Potomac Yard area of Alexandria would tie together the Crystal City and Old Town stations. The infrastructure is also in place. Both the Mt. Vernon Trail and the new Potomac Avenue trail (and road) are available for cyclists. The Potomac Yard stations would draw members because of the shopping center and the restaurants nearby.

The Alexandria City Council voted 7-0 last night to add Capital Bikeshare stations. The six stations will be located at the King St. and Braddock Rd. Metro stations, along King St. and close to Old Town North. (Maybe they read my last post LOL.) There could be six more stations to be funded by third-parties (developers, businesses).

The stations could be in place by spring or summer 2012. Additional stations could be added in FY 2013 (late 2012?).
