So in 130 years you will have to drop back to 5 laps. Sorry, man.

I definitely felt the heat more this year than last. Got in 6 laps but they rolled up the timer strip early due to the late start so the official results say 5. To heck with them, I got my gold medal.

Is that what happened? I just checked my results and also only have 5 laps listed though I completed 6. I wasn’t expecting to, especially since the last three laps were mostly solo; I never did find a my-speed group to work with and by lap 3 all the faster riders had passed and left me behind, I couldn’t really find wheels to grab anymore.

Legs were crying at me the last lap; I want my documentation darn it!

    That was fun though.

Out of curiosity, does anyone know if there will there be a photo page? I’m sure at least a few of the folks with cameras out on the course today were official AFAC photographers.

    It’s something I wouldn’t mind a photo of

Some people post photos after the ride, but I’ve never seen a comprehensive photo gallery that had pictures of every single rider. In most years, I can’t find a photo of myself from the ride.

IIRC there was an email from the organizers noting that a pro photographer would be shooting from some corners. I remember this from last year as it was hard to find the 50 something guy in red and black kit from all the other 50 something guys in red and black kit. This year I flicked the 40 bazillion watt frame lights on while passing him at the top of the hill
I seem to have deleted the email along with the other 15 they send each year.

In spite of the heat and a flat on lap 5 I somehow did a good bit better than last year in standings and lap time. A string of four 22.X mph laps but the flat tire 5th 15 mph dropped the overall to 20.5
Next year it is on the tandem with the Dear Daughter stoking. I think that will be a whole new fun.

W-L Bike Club had a good showing. We had 5 teachers, four students, and countless alumni yelling, “Go Generals!” As they went by. I really like that ride for it a low-key, fun time all around.

aside from 5 minute pitstop on lap 3 to tighten down speedplay cleat, not too shabby I suppose:

    1 24:30.40 22.8mph 9.300
    2 25:39.54 21.8mph 18.600
    3 30:08.69 18.5mph 27.900
    4 25:48.58 21.6mph 37.200
    5 28:17.80 19.7mph 46.500
    6 30:11.33 18.5mph 55.800

laps 5 & 6 were noodle-toodles after catching back on with my riding buddy… I did feel like I was the only one willing to put my nose in the wind whenever I sat in with a group. Slackers!

I was doing great, then on the 6th lap by the water station, I caught a groove in the pavement and went down. Luckily a dentist was nearby and checked my teeth. Barely managed 6 laps.

Ouch! That’s not good. Which water station did it occur at? There were some odd grooves at both stations (Crystal Drive and at the Air Force Memorial) generally involving transitions between concrete/stone and asphalt. I almost got caught by the one at the Air Force Memorial.

I hope your teeth are okay.

Yeah, it was at the Air Force Memorial station. I’m more pissed that my time would have been much better, but when I fell, I completely cramped up, and had to work that out before I finished up.

I hope my yell was a manly bellow instead of what I’m pretty sure was a girlish scream.

Strava said I had the third fastest lap of the day: https://www.strava.com/segments/7393091

(I guess the other faster folks didn’t upload their files…)
