Just discovered the forum when trying to pay business taxes online, great stuff!
I saw the thread on getting a ticket for the red light thing and thought it might be useful to ask if the police are as quick to aid our safety as it concerns pedestrians in the bike lanes and in the roadways in general. Etiquette on the multi-use trails is an important thing, but when cars, bikes, and pedestrians are regulated by law it seems the pedestrians are left out of the equation.
Not to be too much of a curmudgeon, but both state and county law clearly state that bike lanes are for the exclusive use of bicycles and that pedestrians (which includes joggers and baby strollers) are not to be in the roadway at all unless there are no sidewalks available. You’d be hard pressed to find any stretch of road in Arlington without at least one side with a sidewalk.
I’ve had far more trouble with pedestrians in the bike lanes than cars/doors and would like to know if the county police would be amenable to ticketing pedestrians they see violating this law.
Hope it wasn’t too enflaming and apologies to our wonderful PD if my anecdotal experience is completely and utterly refutable
