I’m curious as to why there isn’t a lot more discussion and coverage on this story (or have I just missed it?):

In particular, the fact that this occurred at rush hour– when the trail is most heavily trafficked. I’ve had several run ins with young people on the trail in much the same manner. I had thought that it had quieted down, but is that just a side effect of the colder weather? The really scary thing about these situations is that the kids that I’ve encountered seemed to just want to randomly menace people– which is a different psychology than someone holding you up for your money or cellphone.
The day after the attack, I noticed that there were three bicycle police who seemed to be “posted” just south of the Franklin Street entrance. I’m guessing that’s a stab at an increased police presence– but they weren’t really patrolling or anything.
