The Smithsonian Castle was the first building of the Smithsonian Institute.  James Smithson provided the initial funding for the institute named after. He is buried in a crypt inside the castle. The name Smithson is derived from Middle English Smith + son, meaning the son of smith. 🧐

#scavhunt – 2/25/2024 – THE SMITH, corner of F and 9 Sts, NW, DC.  There was was The SMITH on 2nd Ave at E 51 St in Midtown Manhattan around the corner from our first temporary apartment.  It was also the first sit-down restaurant we went to when COVID restrictions were eased in NYC

George Washington would have needed a good smith to make sure his horse’s shoes fit correctly for battle.

The Alien Registration Act, known as the SMITH Act, was enacted on June 28, 1940, introduced by Howard W. SMITH (D-VA). It set criminal penalties for advocating the overthrow of the US government by force or violence, and required all adult aliens to register with the federal government. I think they meant non-US citizens, not the aliens who may have visited in a ship like this.

I took this pic at Fort CF Smith park in N Arlington.  I decided to go for the pretty pic rather than the one with the sign saying it’s Fort CFSmith park cuz it seems more like what you guys are looking for on this year’s contest

2/25 Smith – Jaclyn Smith starred as Jacqueline Bouvier Kennedy in the 1981 movie with the same name. They share a close resemblance. Which Jackie is this, Kennedy or Smith?
