Yes, the only benefit of starting the first day of winter is tying in the Festive 500.

January and February only would be best.

Another benefit is giving an advantage to those of us who don’t observe Christmas, and who don’t have kids in the house. ;)

Sort of a newbie here. Talked all last winter with my co-workers about doing this and then our winter gear sat happily in our closets all winter. So this year, we’re in. Can’t wait until January 1 unless we agree to start earlier :P

Well, the extended weather forecast for my trip next week includes three days of light snow, so I’m game. Guess I’ll take the Pugsley. Also need to get the winter tires mounted on the car.

I plan to crush EBIKES daily (bring it on)!

Can we all just agree to make it easier on the back end. Or perhaps pay a membership fee!(yeah right!) Ok so make it easier on the code kids and agree with every idea they ever have that reduces the amount of work for them. I’ve always been amazed by the amount of work that goes into freezingsaddles.com (it’s better than EVERY .gov website). Really it’s all in good fun.

I’m available as a consultant to rewrite any .gov site you want. I’ll do it for half what you’re paying now and it’ll be at least twice as good.

    a. y’all are funny. so much talk about rules, and ebikes. it’s funny.
    b. i don’t ride as much as many of you I know this from Strava), and I don’t have all the gear (no studded tires!).
    c. I haven’t hardened up yet – I’m still pretty wimpy. I’ll freeze and ride, but i don’t know how much.
    d. Can i still play? Do i need to be a “slacker”.
    e. when i have a few hours, i’ll read through the rules and all the posts from last year . :)

OOH I’m a Junior exec. member of the forum now. how did that happen? surely that counts for something!!

Newbies have to be team members, not slackers “This is known”

    Here’s the rule in question.

And yes, you can still play. You’ll just get assigned to a team. We make at least some effort to make sure that the teams are reasonably balanced between the truly obsessive and the wimps (don’t ask about the details of that!), so you’ll be fine, unless you are such a wimp that you aren’t even trying to get out there.

At one time I was “Totes an adorable member” which lasted, dunno, like a week or something. Now I’m reduced to just a “Somewhat regular member”. >>meh<<

You’re still a “Totes adorable member” in my book.

As a “venerated senior member,” I have to say, the veneration part of that hasn’t once lived up to my expectations.

    It’s also not true.
