Thanks Rod and Dana for organizing everything.
We should do some sort of Victory Lap around Hains Point or something like that to commemorate the challenge.

ParticipantI never could find my missing 13 miles for September, there must have been one ride where the “include in stats” box was unchecked. Too bad, even if I had found it, I’d have still been just outside the top 100. Thanks to everyone who participated, especially to Rod for prodding us on and to Dana for putting everything into perspective!

Just don’t run into the closed barrier! I know, how about Biketoberfest in Bluemont this evening?

ParticipantJust curious — how many people rode a significant percentage of their miles or rides on CaBi (Capital Bikeshare)? While I did all of my longer rides on my triathlon bike, I did the majority of my rides (most of the shorter ones) on CaBi bikes. Am I the only one who does this?

Unfortunately, the Nationals have locked them away until next season. :p

I feel like such a slacker since I have yet to join CaBi (or even test ride one).

ParticipantI’ve only ridden CaBi once or twice. There are no stations near where I live, and it’s quite hilly anyway.
I was happy to make platinum/3000+ points given that I had 2+ months off, and I didn’t bother with sleaze rides.

You might be asking the wrong audience, although the right one does pop on here from time to time!

We had an awesome team leader. Thanks so much, Rod, for creating the team, communicating info, sharing photos of beautiful places, and most of all, inspiring us to ride more by example!
And Dana, many thanks to you too for all the stats!
Thank you Kathy and the others who have expressed appreciation for my role in this challenge. Thanks to Dana for his statistical updates and the impetus they provided. I should thank hozn too (although I had to beg him to join the team
). I think his link to the app that automatically uploaded rides to Endomondo helped A LOT to get people to participate.
I became captain only because I was the first to sign up. :p
Thanks everyone who put in the miles, especially those who got on their bikes on days they wouldn’t have otherwise. I think thats what the challenge was all about.
I’m a little disappointed with LAB for failing to acknowledge the winners. I can’t find anywhere a list of the individuals, teams, workplaces, communities, states that “won”. I understand the challenge was to encourage more people to ride and people who already ride to ride more, but there were rankings and it was a contest. Why no kudos to the winners?
Jayson O’Mahoney, the captain of the winning team contacted my with a suggestion we meet up for a photo of the captains first and second placed teams when he was in the area the week after the challenge. We weren’t able to connect that week but he mentioned he would be in town the following week to meet up with LAB for lunch and an award presentation and maybe we could meet up then.
I’d meant to ask him if he’d been notified about his team’s win (because I was not), but it seemed he had not only been notified but invited to lunch and an award presentation!
I met Jayson briefly in Farragut before his luncheon. I’d failed to deliver everything I had on board before we met, my fault, so I didn’t have time to hang out and chat in a coffee shop or somewhere out of the weather. My camera was deep in my pack because of the rain. I should have dug it out for a picture, but when I started to do so, Jayson didn’t seem interested because he wasn’t in bike kit. I should have taken some pictures anyway but the mail was getting wet, so we parted ways after a short conversation. I think he had a southern accent. Australian.
I’ve communicated with LAB. I’ve provided an address where they can send the award and I also mentioned that I could come to them to get the prize. Maybe when the awards are ready, I’ll be invited to lunch. Maybe not.
Jayson got kitted out for the award ceremony.

I’ve received not one but two surveys since the challenge ended, one in my role as organizer of the local challenge for Fairfax and one in my role as a participant (I’m still waiting for the survey for my roles as workplace organizer and team captain of my workplace team). In both surveys I suggested that it would be nice to add functionality so that localities could challenge other locations. I was thinking Fairfax v. Arlington (before you get all up in arms, Arlingtonians, just look at some of those who put up the biggest miles for your “Bike Arlington” team . . . ). But there’s no reason we couldn’t do greater Washington DC vs. Gainesville FL. Or Arlington VA vs. whatever suburb the LAB just turned gold. The possibilities are endless!

The LAB notified us on the BA Facebook page (I think I shared that here). We also received a few surveys from them too.
