ParticipantHey y’all, if you haven’t posted your June miles please do so this weekend.
Rod posted a Strava-Endomondo link http://tapiriik.com He says you don’t even need to log onto Endomonmdo.
I am not in a position to validate the link because I still use a less automated system for recordation. Something to do with clay tablets.
There are a number of folks showing zero miles for June.
Thanks

ParticipantMikey wins a Sierra Nevada jersey! Unless there’s a different Michael Essig competing from Virginia? I know someone with a year’s supply of toilet paper that might want to trade…

ParticipantThe tapiriik webpage has this message at the bottom. Not sure what the deal is, as it seems to still be syncing from my Strava account.
“Service Advisory: The interface (API) that tapiriik uses to synchronize activities with Strava is scheduled to be retired on June 30th. When this happens, tapiriik will no longer be able to synchronize your activities to or from your Strava account..
“If this makes you sad, please email support@strava.com to suggest that tapiriik be given access to the new Strava API.”

Yes, for similar reasons, we’ll have to consider what to use for a back end if we run BAFS next year:
What we can’t allow:Applications that encourage competition

Indeed! Someone must have realized that we Bike Arlington All Stars don’t actually ever go onto Endomondo! Or at least I haven’t logged on to Endomondo in a month since my Strava account just auto updates via tapiriik. I did just check though and, like Shawn, my July 1 and July 2 rides have shown up.
Someone advise if this ceases to be the case!

That message appears to have changed since then
Service Advisory: The interface (API) that tapiriik uses to synchronize activities with Strava was retired on June 30th. tapiriik will no longer be able to connect to your Strava account to synchronize your activities. There is currently no timeline for resuming Strava synchronizations.

Yeah, email them and you’ll probably be added to this ticket https://strava.zendesk.com/requests/118808
Donkeys at Strava. I have no idea why they didn’t grant him an API key. I also requested one (for Freezing Saddles integration), but my request did violate one of their rules which is that developers can’t be building things to encourage any sort of competition. I don’t see tapiriik violating that, though.
Luckily for me, I guess, my data is all going to Garmin Connect first anyway, so that syncs just fine w/ Endomondo. I will have to rewrite my upload script for Garmin Connect -> Strava that does not use Strava’s API. Le sigh.

ParticipantWeird, when I look at the rides that have been imported through tapirik, they have different duration than rides uploaded from garmin. Also, the ported rides have min/max alt, while the direct uploaded rides have max speed and average HR.

Since Strava doesn’t seem to consider itself as encouraging any sort of competition, we should just do the same with Freezing Saddles. It’s not competition, it simply facilitates the encouragement of daily riding during a defined period.

The Strava v2 API that tapiriik uses for uploads appears to have originated for iphone app uploads (device always identifies as an iPhone when files are uploaded using this API). I may be misrembering, but I believe the API uses GPX files instead of TCX; the different format may be missing some of the data fields. (But I have always gotten max speed and average HR on my API-uploaded rides.)

Yeah, I tried to make that point in my request for the API key. But apparently it wasn’t granted. I also tried to make the point that I wrote an open-source python library for interfacing w/ Strava and that I’d like to be able to extend the library to support the new API. Apparently that wasn’t a good enough reason either
It appears they’ve just decided that they want to severely limit third-party access to Strava data.
