I only wish I could right now!
I know you would have knocked out a fast century for the occasion of Opening Day. I wanted to knock out a slow one but an important job I do on Wednesday afternoons prevented me from taking off very early. Not enough hours in the day for me to ride 100 with the trailer, haha. By the time I got home I was tired, but managed to get out for a quick spin. I was headed back to the barn with only ten extra miles when I saw Greenbelt Jeff who mentioned he had ridden 71 miles already and had more to go. This inspired me to go another ten.
So I got a metric century for the day. Thanks Jeff, and congrats on a great ride, 80 miles while at work! My best work day so far was 49 miles.
It’s a shame you got injured, Chris, and I guess finishing in the top 50 individual riders like you did last year isn’t going to be possible, but I think you’ll hit the Diamond level no problem even if you miss the first two months.
For those of you who weren’t following the standings in the warm-up period, CR was leading for most of the period. I think he got bumped from the top spot right around the time he got hurt, adding insult to injury, but I’m certain he would have finished first for second for that period and would have easily got to the 5000 pt Diamond level ahead of Pete and me who were among the handful of riders who got to 5000 in the warm-up.

ParticipantWho are these people? Endomondo says I invited Gerald Tucker and mnuar…com but I don’t think I did. Gerald is kicking butt though and if mnuar is Peter Nuar, he is too.
There are a lot of other names I don’t recognize, but I think all are local (DC and suburbs).
I have recruited some ringers, not that we needed them, but they needed a team.
Tom LePore didn’t actually need a team. He was on my NBC team last year and could have joined them. I actually tried to uninvite him after drafting Steve Eunpu from Strava for our GC contender. My old team needs a rider like Tom… Should I give him the boot? Haha. As team administrator I think I can remove people but I haven’t tried to do that. Yet. If some of you don’t start log your rides. I see you racking up the big miles on Strava, but you let your NBC team languish in third place.
Steve Eunpu and I follow each other on Strava. He works at home but rides 40 plus on the W&OD in the morning before work. I’ve never met Steve. We’re going to get together for a ride after he returns from Assault on Mt Mitchell. We can make it a group ride if anyone else wants to come along. I’ll update when we decide on where and when.
Ann McDermott is a Proteus customer and sometimes goes on the shop rides. I haven’t actually met her either, but I saw her briefly in the shop and Jeff told me she was looking for a team to join.
I hope you aren’t mad at me for inviting strangers to our party. Tom’s the only strange one but who am I to talk? The other two seem like nice people who ride a lot.
With a week in the bag we are doing great. Top medium size team, I think we could challenge the big teams if everyone logged their miles. Thanks to those that are riding daily and logging the miles. Props to those that rode centuries (Charlie Thomas, Justin Antos) and metric centuries (me, Greenbelt, Dirt, Steve Eunpu) during the first week and to those who rode yesterday in the rain.

The stranger the better, they’ll fit right in.

ParticipantI usually forget to load my rides into Endomondo for a few days at a time, so don’t be surprised if I repeatedly fall in the rankings and then jump all-of-the-sudden.

ParticipantOK I should have realized when Endomondo says “you’ve invited” they mean plural you which is grammatically correct and I shouldn’t have assumed they meant me singularly. In my confusion I uninvited a couple of people, but I think both had already joined our team. If you’ve invited someone and they aren’t already on the team and you don’t see him or her in the list of invited riders, please re-invite them and please accept my apology for removing the invitation.

Hey, that’s fine. Every few days is great. Thanks for participating!

Haha, right on.

ParticipantA big key to this challenge is riding every single day – even more so than was the case with Freezing Saddles. I’ll do the best I can, but unfortunately I have a few trips coming up (including all of next week) where I don’t think I’ll be able to ride. I’ll try to make some of that up with milege if I can, but if others can make sure they get in at least one mile a day whenever possible, it will really help the team!

I’m doing what I can to get at least a mile a day. Only been commuting for a couple months, so my base miles are low. But this is great motivation to get me going and to convince myself I need a new bike.
I kind of wish they had an option to specify if you’re a new bike commuter. I’d like to compare how I’m doing relative to others that just started commuting this year.

ParticipantThanks Kathy for making that point! 20 points for every day you ride! Don’t worry about the time off, we’ll cover for you.
Pete, you’re our rookie ALL STAR! If all of our 44 riders rode as much as you (or Kathy) we would be in first place ahead of teams with 129 and 141 members!
Dave “Shut up Legs” Cairncross, the captain of San Diego Cyclists, is aggressively recruiting all unsigned top ranked riders. Of the top ten on their internal leaderboard, only Dave lives in California. The others are from all over the country including far corners of USA, Bath Maine and Key West. Manhattan (Illinois!), Ann Arbor, Phoenix, etc. He’s trying to get Maryland powerhouse, Isaias O’Daniell.
The race is on. Bike Arlington All Stars vs. NBC All Stars. I think we can take them!

ParticipantWell…. I left 40 points on the table. I didn’t ride today or yesterday. I’m not too worried, though. It’s a marathon with the extra month this year. I’ll be out there again tomorrow. Looking forward to Bike to Work Week!

ParticipantThe way I look at it is like this — every day that I don’t ride at least one mile, someone else on the team has to ride 20 miles to make up for it. And even worse, that someone else might be me. 20 miles is a lot!
(And 1 mile is almost nothing. I don’t even change into bike clothes for that.)
It gets me off my rear, and makes biking every day a habit.
p.s. Also, I love to ride my bike.

ParticipantChris is back, and on the hunt. He is in last place on the BA All Stars. Anyone wanna put a side bet on when he reaches first place?? Shall we all call the passes as he picks us off one by one???

How the heck can he be riding again?! He has a broken bone in his foot!!!
I bet he is sneaking out of the house behind his wife’s back.
Insane.

Ha. I currently have two more points than Dave “Shut up Legs” Cairncross. So there, ringer stealer!
