In defense of the Reston century, the full 100-mile route gets you more time on roads and off the trail, and I’ve heard it’s quite challenging. I’ve only done the metric, since I no longer have interest in full centuries.

And even the shorter route was worth doing once, since I plan to use parts of the cue sheet to add variety to my solo WOD rides.

What she said, and I’ve done the full imperial century four times. It gets modified a little each year so there is always something new. :D

PPTC’s February Pedal Patter has a listing of local metric and imperial century rides from now until October. It’s not exhaustive, but is a good starting point. I got my printed copy yesterday, but it doesn’t seem to be up on their website yet.

I also am waiting for a reprise of the Kill Bill Century since I bailed on the last one at the metric century mark.

WABA announced the 2012 Vasa Ride for March 4th, with warm blueberry soup after the ride at the House of Sweden in Georgetown.

We have alot in common. I also recall lots of roads in the Reston Century (most seemed to be going up hills) and I also have less interest in full centuries than I once did.

I just committed to riding two more centuries before September.

2012 Reston Century – Aug 26 – anyone else on the forum riding this one? I’m gonna ride from my house and tack on an extra 10 miles each way.

2012 Peak Season Century – Oct 6 – with a bunch of friends in upstate NY. Doubt anyone from here is going, but felt compelled to list it anyway

This one might make it on the schedule this year: http://www.alpineloopgranfondo.com/

Looking at the route, I may do the Reston Century. I’ve got the Civil War Century two weeks after that, so I think that’s plenty of recovery time and the Reston Century doesn’t require a hotel stay like the CWC. That would put me at 3 organized centuries for the season, which I feel good about. Next year I may try the Mountains of Misery, but there was no I way I could’ve done it this year.

I so wanted to do that, but with family that went to WVU and JMU, it wasn’t gonna happen with the football game on the same day.

The autumnal running of the Kill Bill Century needs to happen too. I promised that we’d do another, possibly more stupider Kill Bill ride. Any suggestions for timing? I’ve had one vote for early September.

Sounds like a good time to me. I’m hoping to join this time around.

I’ve done the Reston Century about four times I think. It’s a good event, very well attended. I’m not super crazy about the way the do the routes. There are about four separate loops, and the rest stops all are in Hamilton, so there’s not a lot of variety there, and you end up riding the same roads a bit getting into and out of there. The first year I did it it was a true nice big loop, which I prefer.

The local cops watch over traffic very very closely, and have ticketed riders going through stop signs in the past (not objecting to this — just a heads up :) )

I’ve ridden all those roads so many times on my own, that it’s hard for me to justify doing this century ride any more, but this is a great introduction to some of the nicer parts of Loudon county such as Snickersville Pike, Hillsboro and vicinity, Waterford etc.

Absolutely! I really need to try riding with some of the people from the forum, in general. I know I’ll get dropped, but it’ll be a good workout just trying to keep up!

Exactly…I have no problem paying to participate in an organized ride if it’s in a place I’d like to explore, but may be unfamiliar with. Also, having support and the company of others for a ride makes it so much more pleasant, that makes it well worth it.

I may try to make this one. It sounds really fun and it’s definitely somewhere I haven’t ridden before. Might be hard for me to squeeze a full Kill Bill around it though – maybe I’d just join for the Barcroft portion.
