Hi Andy and Freezing Saddles team,
This is my first FS, and I’m hoping to continue my 2020 mileage consistency. Not a fan of riding when it’s icy, but anything else I can do.
I’m fine with either text or email, but email is probably better.
    Go team!
    Barbara

    Good morning all!

I’m Jorge Torrico of Burke. Va. This is my first time officially fully signed up for Freezing Saddles.

I’m an avid active transportation advocate. I’ve lived in the NoVA area for 31+ years. I founded and lead a friendly “Bike Burke” group, helping to encourage more riders, specially functional ones, but appreciate the leisure riders too.

I loved riding in my youth, had a pause during part of college and early professional years. It wasn’t until a career change 6+ years ago that I could then ride regularly again.

I commute into DC by bike/bus/bike or bike/slug/bike (not during Covid-19, or just bike.

I look forward to contributing to our team effort. Any idea of previous and current tags for separate points? A la #parkfinder , etc?

Also, some sort of group chat would be best, Google Hangouts, Facebook Messenger? Slack? Discord? All three are best since it is available on phone and pc and are OS agnostic.

    Thanks,
    Jorge

Carlos here. I live in Arlington. This is my fifth freezing saddles. I’m normally a commuter but that’s not happening until well after the competition is over this year. I’m going for perfect attendance. It has eluded me the last 4 years due to planned vacations. With Covid this year there won’t be any freezing saddles vacations so the path is set. I prefer email for communications.

hi team – I’m Chadd and I live in Arlington. This is my first time for FS. I’m normally travelling too much to be able to ride outside every day. Looking forward to 10+ miles/day for the next 2 months.

Hey everyone! Kevin from the hills of Glover Park here.

This is also my first year doing FS and I am looking forward to the challenge. My goal is to ride an average of 100 miles a week this year and I am to ride every day starting tomorrow. I wasn’t able to ride on Wednesday due to curfew and won’t be able to ride today due to illness but I’ll be back at it tomorrow. I bought studded tires last year that I never got to use so I’m set up for any snow or ice we may get. My goal is to average 100 miles a week for the entire year and bike commute 90% of the time.

I commute by bike (no work from home for me), ride around the city for errands, sometimes grind my way up the C&O for fun or the occasional overnighter, and am interested in exploring more gravel roads and getting back into mountain biking. Hopefully bike shops will get more mountain bikes in stock soon. I sold my old mountain bikes early pandemic assuming I’d be able to replace them with something newer soon.

I’d say discord or slack would be the most efficient way to communicate. I don’t spend much time on social media these days.

Very happy to read your stories and to have you on the team. I’d like to do some group rides (safely!) if we can. Would anyone be interested in doing a zoom for the team to say hello to one another in the next few days?

Hello fellow Honey Badgers! This is Kurt from the Falls Church/Tysons area. I’m Bent Bike on Strava and bentbike33 on this forum because I ride recumbent bikes exclusively. Ordinarily, I would have a daily commute to downtown DC, but COVID has me doing a set of loop routes I’ve developed (Jorge is an admirer) of approximately the same length as the round-trip commute. I usually ride in the morning before telework, which was a great idea all summer but may need reassessment during Freezing Saddles.

This is my sixth Freezing Saddles, the last 4 I have managed to ride at least a mile every day. My goal this year is to ride at least a DecaSleaze (10 miles) every day and leave no bonus points behind.

I sponsor the Loopy for Arlington pointless prize for riding the Arlington Loop of trails. I play a few of the games like reporting on wormholes. I am a regular at the Hump Day Coffee Club (HDCC) Wednesday mornings at Best Buns in Shrilington (although this year we just buy coffee and pastries at Best Buns and sit outside nearby). Stop by HDCC sometime if you can. I usually get there about 7:30 and leave before I get too cold.

I have found Strava Team Posts to be a good way of communicating during Freezing Saddles.

I’m down with communicating through the Team Strava posts. Love your dedication to the games.

Hey all! I’m Sam in the Ballston area of Arlington. Did freezing saddles last year, hoping this year to ride every day. Typically ten miles per ride, though I enjoy longer when there’s time/fitness. Using this as a way to explore a bit, hopefully see more of the area as I’ve noticed there are lots of hidden gems of all flavors. In that vein, hoping to get to each of the boundary stones for that pointless prize – saw it and thought it’d be a good goal. Don’t think I’ll do it in one ride though!

Email or strava work well for communication for me.

Would love to do a distanced ride at some point if we’re all comfortable. Looking forward to the season!
