Is that

how many miles I expect to ride each week of Freezing Saddles
? The question wording suggests A, but that seems irrelevant for FS.
Muchas gracias.

Points are capped at 100 miles/week + bonus points, so I hope teams aren’t made based on this stat!

Good point. The meaning of “ringer” changed based on the cap.
We don’t really have a definition of “ringer.” The idea is that in general, we assign to teams based on last year’s miles (and this year, that will presumably be capped miles). However, we ask about ringer miles a) so that we have some idea what newbies will do, and b) so that people whose miles can be expected to be markedly different this year than last (e.g., the year dasgeh was about 9½ months pregnant, or the person who had a 20 mile commute last year and works from home this year) can say so. Since we’re comparing to actual miles people had in last year’s Freezing Saddles, expected miles in this year’s Freezing Saddles would be the appropriate measurement.
At one point, we were just using last year’s miles for everyone who wasn’t a newbie. But then some people were deciding not to participate because circumstances had changed to the point they would have far fewer miles, and they were afraid of letting down their teammates. This is our current compromise.
