My bike accident on July 2, 2012, just missed being on this map because it occurred 740 feet west of the Arlington County line (corner of E. Columbia St and Forest Dr. in Falls Church). The result was a broken collar bone due to a post-durecho, low-hanging utility wire that snagged me just below the lip of my helmet. I was moving about 15 mph at the time. The wire lifted me and my bike completely off the ground and slammed me to the pavement on my left shoulder. I was transported by ambulance to Virginia Hospital Center in Arlington. This is one incident where I would’ve been better off NOT wearing a helmet because the wire would have just glanced off my head instead of snagging the helmet.
