ParticipantI like fried chicken. My wife likes fried chicken. My dad likes fried chicken. Having seen them all eat it so enthusiastically right in front if me, I do think every person in my family likes fried chicken. I see no reason to think otherwise in this case.
My brother actually doesn’t like fried chicken! WHAT THE?! 😮
Oh well, I think what I have been saying is perfectly fine. Warm today, isn’t it?

Just another Dirt superpower.

Well, you can always carry a pump that accomodates both or more than one pump….
I think he meant you can’t fit a schraeder tube into a presta drilled rim. Unless you carry a drill with you.

Participant0 Watts too: he was just coasting with the weight of the fat bike.

How do you know this is what happened?

Exactly. No one knows exactly what happened. Maybe it seems like it could have been avoided, but it wasn’t… it was an accident. If you have come within inches before then there’s no reason why one day you might react a split second too late and actually hit someone.

ParticipantWelcome Guus! I’m also a transplant to DC (from Australia) and also generally very happy how bike-friendly an area it is around here.

ParticipantJust another segment that is too short/tight for accuracy with GPS units.

ParticipantThis is my favorite named Strava segment
http://app.strava.com/segments/852724Makes me laugh every time I see it on someone’s ride. I should ride it sometime.

Second, the falling seatpost may solved by a new seatpost as well. However, make sure the seatpost clamp is torqued to spec. Before doing so, buy some friction paste from your local bike shop (also known as carbon paste). It will help create friction between the seatpost and seatpost tube. Reinsert and torque clamp to spec. Done.
Yeah I was having a similar problem to rcannon100 with my seatpost slipping down on my folding bike. I read a recommendation online for this stuff:
http://www.amazon.com/Ritchey-Liquid-Torque-Friction-Paste/dp/B003Z85HPM
and also stumbled on this
http://www.amazon.com/Park-Tool-Supergrip-Assembly-Compound/dp/B0071X261U/but I ended up just using regular grease I had at home (Finish Line I think) since neither my seatpost nor frame/collar are carbon, and I also discovered I had water inside my frame so I figured coating the joint would be handy anyway. It seems to have worked.

ParticipantI almost always have on me a spare tube, 2 levers and a pump. The pump isn’t in the bag. My bikes all have at least one rear light permanently attached and I usually keep a very small front light (e.g. the BikeArlington ones) with me too just in case.
Generally I travel with my driver’s licence, a credit card and my cell phone too, tho I will only put those in the under-seat bag if I’m on a recreational ride (as opposed to a commute). If I’m going for a longer ride I’ll add a multi-tool, patch kit and cash (usually in a zip-lock bag with my phone/cards). I should probably add a spare chain link but I’ve never used one before and only vaguely remember seeing a chain tool used once during a ride.
I usually try to have something that might work as a boot now as well (a dollar bill) since I blew out a tire not that long ago (americancyclo helped me out with a folded receipt as a boot).

ParticipantI’ll either wear lined MTB shorts (I also like Fox ones too and I like what I’ve seen of Zoic ones but never owned a pair), or some other clothing over bike shorts, if I don’t want to be seen wearing bike shorts. I don’t like riding without the padding of bike shorts.
I have a couple pairs of these (because they’re so cheap). They’re not fully technical but not cotton either. And I have some Old Navy gym shorts as another option as well.
http://www.amazon.com/Matix-Shapiro-22in-Short-Mens/dp/B0062Y6WSMI only graduated to proper bike shorts last year. Before then I always just wore lined MTB shorts, and yes, without underwear.

Tell me something: Why are some of these segments on net downhills? I thought the “King of the Mountain” was the guy who got up the mountain the fastest?

Yeah I was a bit confused with the KOM title for segments when I first started using Strava. I guess if the segment is flat/downhill they should make a green jersey icon or something.
My favourite segments are all hills anyway.

Or join me on the long way around, MVT to 4MRT/W&OD. Come on, it only adds another six miles or so.
I love taking that route when I have the time. Except when it’s flooded (and the smell).

ParticipantNice. Whenever I bike to anywhere around Tyson’s, I go via the W&OD and Vienna backstreets.

ParticipantSo hill repeats are not a good idea?
Should be an interesting ride back today. I drove halfway to alleviate some of the climbing I normally encounter on my way home.
