ParticipantI decided to say the hell with it and take a chance, hoping that a lot of melting occurred today. it ended up being a good call. the MVT is pretty much 80% clear from alexandria to 14th st bridge. I did the whole thing with road tires and didn’t put my foot down once. there are a bunch of slushy patches that will probably freeze overnight but i’ll probably still ride it the rest of the week with just regular road tires. hopefully this helps someone.

ParticipantOf course, but this helps a lot. Hopefully traffic thru commonwealth won’t be annoying. i’ll have to do some trail, but it beats walking 80% of the time like i did this morning.

To minimize the distance on unplowed trails, get over to Boundary Channel Drive, Long Bridge Drive, Eads Street and Commonwealth Avenue as much as possible.
There’s no way to avoid some of the MVT since you are coming over the 14th Street bridge. The least amount of trail riding is going north through the Marina. If you want to chance it, you can cut over to Eads at the Crystal City Connector at the airport. I have no idea about the trail conditions on the south side of Four Mile run between Route 1 and Commonwealth Avenue.

ParticipantIf someone could post the general MVT conditions from alexandria to 14th st bridge i’d be appreciative. i took it to work this morning with regular road tires, which was a BIG mistake. does anyone know a “back” way to the 14th st bridge from north alexandria? I don’t know the roads around here very well.

Participantthanks everyone for these updates. keep ’em comin!
I only wish there was some sort of “trail status” page for each trail. not that i don’t like reading you fine peoples’ posts, but it would be nice if there were traffic cameras or something like that during the winter.vilago
Participantwell this sucks. i guess i’m not commuting via MTV tomorrow. if someone could let me/us know when it’s clear i would owe that person a beer

ParticipantSo general consensus on the MVT is that it’s probably a 2/10 on ridability? I usually commute on it, and didn’t the last 2 days for obvious reasons, but trying to restart tomorrow.
